Father’s Day Gift Guide: Stylish Presents for Superior Dads

Stylehaüs Father’s Day Gift Guide: 7 Stylish Presents For Superior Dads

fday3

Father’s Day is once again upon us, and we’re thrilled for the annual opportunity to put aside our Daddy issues and show thanks for paternal care with thoughtful gift giving and sweet speeches.

Dads are notoriously hard to shop for: their taste is dubious, their trendiness is often nonexistent, and their communication skills halted at puberty. Worst of all, Dads rarely say what they actually want. Instead, they’ll simply say “I have everything I could ever want” and then start talking about something super dull like golf or nature.

It is a rare Dad that truly appreciates or even gives a second thought the never-ending ebb and flow of fashion. Don’t despair: our stylists have assembled a list of Father’s Day Gift ideas guaranteed to bring delight and approval to even the fiercest Fathers.

1. Classic Leather Wallet

wallets

What better gift to give Daddy than the gift of carrying cash in style? Think of the positive associations: every time he looks at money, precious Papa will think of you.

Plus, wallets are one of the few Dad friendly luxury accessories. Even the most modest man will accept and enjoy the gorgeous status symbol of a chic wallet.

Wallets are a gift that will be paid back threefold he’s contemplating whether you REALLY deserve that YSL crossbody for a birthday present and his lovely leather accessory reminds him of your boundless and utterly selfless generosity. You’re such a nice person!

Brahmin Billfold Wallet in Black Melbourne, $98. Santiago Gonzalez Crocodile Wallet, $595. Gucci ‘Microguccissimma’ Wallet in Navy, $300. Giorgio Armani Hammered Leather Wallet with ID holder, $395.

2. Poised Planner

planners

If your Dad is anything like mine, he’s partial to long-winded monologues about the importance of punctuality, discipline, moderation, and a myriad of other tedious traits.

Dads are practical. They like gifts that make sense. That’s why they have such difficulty comprehending the importance of accessorizing: it has no (TANGIBLE) benefit. By giving your Father a planner, you not only remind him of his own incredible importance, but you subtly signal that you too are a responsible person who understands the beauty of proper time management.

To me, the height of luxury is for even the smallest item to be a gorgeous piece in it’s own right. By sneaking some style in a stereotypically insignificant item, you’re giving dear Dad a taste of the good life. Without giving him the opportunity to blather on about growing up in a cardboard shack or whatever other guilt trip he adores to lovingly send you on.

Mulberry Leather Agenda in Natural Oak, $470. Moleskine Planner, $30. Trussardi Planner, $149. AcquaDiParma Planner, $148.

3. Super Soft Blanket

blankets

Even the MANLIEST Man can appreciate a super soft surface. Everyone likes to be comfortable, but Dads LOVE the serene sweetness of uninhibited comfort.

Super soft blankets are one of those items you don’t know you want until you get one, and then it’s something you can’t live without. Plus, Fathers aren’t exactly known for their glittering social calendar: blankets can be enjoyed solo, in the comfort of his Man cave.

Whether he’s tucking for a good night’s sleep or slumped over the couch watching the big game, your Dad will smile with simple joy every time he snuggles into his new blanket and thinks of the wonderful daughter he raised. American

Blanket Pattern Fleece Throw, $77. Missoni Home Pereseo Blanket, $775. Portico Wrapture in Faux Fur, $80. Barney’s New York Havana Herringbone Blanket, $335.

4. Regal Robe

robe

Is there any image more pervasive in American pop culture than the haggard all American Dad, wrapped in a ratty robe and clutching a mug of coffee as he retrieves the morning paper from the front steps?

Yeah, that picture needs a revamp. Stat. And you’re just the girl to do it! Like a fancy blanket, the luxury robe is a delight men seldom buy for themselves.

This Father’s Day, give your Dad the gift of waking up and shutting down in comfort and sophistication with one of these masculine yet stylish robes.

Derek Rose Satin-Stripe Dobby Dot Robe in Navy, $400.00. Hanro Night & Day Knit Robe in Black Iris, $218.00. UGG Australia Brunswick Robe in Navy, $145.00. Neiman Marcus Cashmere Robe in Charcoal, $712.

5. Leather Jacket

jackets

Unorthodox? Yes. Leather jackets are as synonymous with ‘cool’ as Dads are with ‘uncool’. Unless your Father is a member of Duck Dynasty or rides a hog, he probably hasn’t owned a leather jacket since the swinging 70s.

Yet deep inside every lame Dad lies a young man who, at one point or another, desperately wanted to be cool. Age, maturity, and acceptance may have diminished that deeply human desire for street cred, but it still lingers on in even the dreariest of Dads.

This Fathers day, give him the gift of cool. He’ll love it. I promise.

Dsquared2 Mixed-Media Moto Jacket, $1460. Vince Patch-Pocket Leather Bomber Jacket, $696. Diesel Bunmi Sheepskin Leather Jacket, $798. Gucci Leather Safari Jacket, $3,483.

6. Stylish Sunnies

Father's Day

Duh duh duh duh duh. BAD TO THE BONE. Duh Duh Duh Duh. I DRINK ALONE CAUSE I PREFER TO BE BY MYSELF. Etc, etc. Inside every middle-old man lies a moonshine chugging, salt of the earth REAL MAN who DGAF.

Left to his own devices, most men will continue wearing the same lame shades until their trusty sunglasses are broken or lost. Then, they will buy an exact replica of those sunglasses and repeat the process all over again.

Men are creatures of habit, and Fatherhood seems to exacerbate monotonous tendencies. Break the cycle by grabbing chic sunnies that lend sophistication, not silliness, to even the most conservative Daddy.

Oliver Peoples Wyler 54 Oversized Sunglasses, Dark Tortoiseshell, $325. TOMS Eyewear Navigator Sunglasses, Gunmetal, $139. Persol Retro Keyhole Round Sunglasses, Terra Di Siena, $370. Tom Ford Marlon Aviator Sunglasses, Rose Golden, $360.

7. Bold Belt

belts

Belts are hideously unappreciated members of the accessory realm. Unlike, say, a bracelet, belts perform a specific and necessary function: preventing your pants from falling down.

In this sense, belts are a lot like Dads, who perform the specific and necessary function of preventing their darling daughters from one of life’s ubiquitous black holes or just falling down during a teenage Smirnoff black out.

Give Dad the gift of snaz with a mature yet trendy belt that will keep his pants riding high. Although hopefully not too high. You might have to have a talk with him about the high pants. Just a thought.

Salvatore Ferragamo Vara Sardegna Oversized Leather Belt, Dark Brown, $360. Tom Ford T Buckle Belt, Oxblood, $730. Lanvin Men’s Patent and Suede Belt, Black, $395. Fendi Reversible Braided Leather FF Men’s Belt, Navy, $450.

Shop The Cannes Carpet At Stylehaüs

While perusing pictures of the best (and worst) stars at Cannes, I was struck by the on-trend similarities between my favorite celeb looks and certain special stylehaüs pieces. You might not be accepting awards in the south of France, but you can still look red carpet ready with a little help from our carefully curated pieces. Check out the Cannes way vs. the stylehaüs way.

IT FACTOR FRIDAY: BIRDS

We don’t know how it happens, but every season a handful of designers happen to magically think up the same ideas.  Realistically, we know that each design team’s “trend forecaster” analyzes what will be popular for the coming seasons, and helps designers push out those pieces on the runway- but we’re still amazed by it!  For Fall 2014, a bunch of trends emerged- neon accents, fur sleeves, faux croptops, gloves- but one of our favorites was bird embroidery, seen everywhere from Cavalli to Valentino.  The look is a little retro and a lot romantic, and we want in on it ASAP.

Alberta Ferretti Fall 2014

trends-fall-2014

Giles Fall 2014

Alberta Ferretti’s bird embroidery accented a moody-toned wool dress while flying over a skirted scene of greenery.  The look at Giles was a pop-art take on the same concept, with birds of neon orange and teal blue popping against solid backgrounds.

Just Cavalli Fall 2014

trends-fall-2014

Valentino Fall 2014

Just Cavalli made the trend more majestic with a jacket that featured two phoenixes as jacket lapels, while Valentino’s take had all the glamour and romance of Old Hollywood.  Can’t you just see that flocked frock on the red carpet?

trends-fall-2014

Dolce & Gabbana Fall 2014

Dolce & Gabbana’s creation not only featured birds, but cartoon flowers, branches, and bugs as well!

buy-trends-fall-2014

No need to wait for Fall 2014 to get in on this It Factor trend- the look is accessible right now!  Pixie Market is the place to go for affordable, trendy pieces:  their orange skirt is totally Giles (and only $34), while their crop top and black dress are a tad more wearable.   French Connection’s maxi dress recalls the romance of the runway for only $80, and Equipment’s embellished blouse ensures you’ll sparkle in the look.

Which one will you get?  We’re eyeing up the orange skirt, for sure.

TREND REPORT: SKORTS

Skorts hold a special place in our hearts here at stylehaus.  While we are totally over the now-ubiquitous Zara miniskort (you know the one…the piece that every blogger and her mom wore last season), skorts in and of themselves aren’t off-limits.  We actually LOVE the versastility of the hybrid piece: the femininity of a skirt with a comfort that only comes from knowing we won’t be flashing our undies if a breeze comes along.

fashion-trends-spring-2014

In fact, a skort is one must-have piece for the Spring season.  If you want in on the look, stylehaus has got you covered!  Stylist Janelle put together two street-style worthy looks with the “It” piece of the moment, all pieces courtesy of stylehaus.

trends-spring-2014

Our yellow and black marble printed shorts have two free-flowing front panels, creating the illusion of a skirt.  The long length is so on-trend right now; remember our post on the popularity of Bermudas?  Janelle matched these edgy shorts with a distressed-looking sweater in black.  The result is an effortlessly cool outfit that Alexander Wang would be proud of.

Looking for something a little less dramatic?  Our neoprene skort with gold zipper detailing might be the skort for you!  We love the asymmetrical hemline, and the light color goes with absolutely everything.  Janelle opted for a blue suede tee shirt, making this look perfect for a Spring night out on the town.

All items (except for Janelle’s gorgeous boots) are available at stylehaus!  Call 323-655-5900 for pricing and sizing details.

THE LOOK FOR LESS: CELINE, 3.1 PHILLIP LIM, AND PRADA

While walking through Zara, we were stopped in our tracks by some oddly familiar designs.  Tops, skirts, and dresses reminiscent of the Spring runways were absolutely everywhere- not that we’re complaining.  We’ll never say no to a, ahem, derivative work of a runway piece at an affordable price!  No knock-offs here, though: while Zara’s designs are thisclose to looking like the real thing, they stop short of being blatant rip-offs.

We have a feeling we’ll get tons of, “Is that Celine?” questions.  If asked, we’ll just smile and say, “It’s Zara! Under $100!” with a smile.  Bragging about a great deal is the new black, you know.

zara-celine-knock-off

If you’re into Celine’s abstract art vibes, look no further than the racks of Zara.  This primary-color painted tee is your best bet; wear it with a black-and-white skirt that recalls Celine’s Spring 2014 opening look for an inspired outfit!

zara-phillip-lim-knock-off

More of a 3.1 Phillip Lim girl?  Zara’s got you covered.  The designers ode to geodes is available for under $60!  Lim paired his version with a yellow leather skirt, but we’re thinking of distressed denim instead.

zara-prada-knock-off

Prada’s crazy Spring runway show is hard to emulate- Miucca Prada’s pieces were so over-the-top that it’d be risky to recreate.  Zara found a way, though, with some of the simpler dresses that walked the catwalk.  Prada’s sporty shift dresses are some of the most inspiring pieces of the season, and Zara’s offering a pared-down version for about $70.  Add a giant statement necklace to replace Prada’s runway bling, and you’re good to go!

IT FACTOR FRIDAY: BUTTERFLIES

butterfly-print-trend

Valentino Spring 2014 Couture

If the designers at Valentino have anything to do with it, butterflies will be a huge trend for Spring and Fall.  Valentino’s runways were positively fluttering with butterfly wings for Spring 2014 Couture and Fall 2014!  However they involved the winged creatures- prints, 3D appliqués, or embroidered patches- the design duo behind Valentino made sure that there was no mistaking what would be the next big trend.  Here at stylehaus, our hears are aflutter for this look!

Valentino Fall 2014

While, of course, Valentino’s runway creations are a little too precious for real life, there is a way to incorporate the pretty little things into an outfit without coming off princess-y.  Our butterfly printed tank is just the thing!  In a classic palate of black and white, butterflies actually look pretty badass.

butterfly-print-tank

We love this tank worn with our white leather jacket, which is actually lined with butterfly-printed fabric!  If you want to try the trend, either of these pieces will satisfy your craving. Get them at stylehaus- 323-655-5900 to order.

Are you into this look?  How will you wear it?

GET THE LOOK: STREET STYLE FASHION WEEK 2014

We have a little bit of an obsession with scouring street style sites, and during Fashion Month we absolutely overdosed on the good stuff.  Seeing so many images in a short time frame is (of course) inspiring, but also a little confusing: there’s a crazy amount of outfit ideas bouncing around in our heads and it’s hard to decide which inspirations to pull from sometimes!  To help sort out our favorite street style snaps, we’ve dedicated ourselves to pinpointing our favorite pics and nailing the look.  Luckily, with stylehaus’ merch at our disposal, it’s pretty easy!  Exhibit A: Joanna Hillman in a black, blue, and fringed look.

joanna-hillman-street-style

Hillman was the epitome of effortless chic at Paris Fashion Week in a simple mix of black and blue.  Here, it’s the little details that make all the difference: the oversized fit of the blazer, the minimal gold chokers, the fringed purse.  Love!

joanna-hillman-street-style-outfit

A look like this is easy to emulate with a few key pieces, like a great pair of black pants and a boyfriend blazer.   We immediately thought of our fave stretch skinny jeans and threw them on with a high-necked black blouse.  On top, we layered our “Ex-Boyfriend” blazer in blue- 50% off!

The finishing touches were our newest gold necklace- we LOVE the minimal shapes- and our trusty fringed bucket bag.  If you want to get this look too, all pieces are available at stylehaus.

GET THE LOOK: LACY SUNDAY

coachella-fashion-2014

Is there anything better than a lace dress?  Lace is so versatile.  It can be classic (a la Audrey Hepburn), rocker-chic (like Stevie Nicks), bohemian, sexy…the list goes on.  Our favorite lace piece at the moment is our floor-sweeping sheer lace gown.  Completely see-through, the dress features a high neckline and long sleeves for the perfect mix of sexy and sweet.

coachella-outfit-ideas-2014

The best thing about this dress?  You can layer whatever you want underneath!  Stylist Jessica went with a plain black slip, but there are countless ways to mix it up.  For a racy look, layer a nude slip underneath.  Rocker?  Try a black slip with a leather jacket on top.  Boho girls might want to try a tank and cutoffs, and those who want to try out the high-fashion look should reach for black high-waisted booty shorts and a corset-like bra.

coachella-fashion-2014

We’re picturing this piece at Coachella, layered over a little bikini top and shorts!  Add a cross-body bag over top, and the look is festival ready.

How would you wear this piece?  If you want to grab it for yourself, it’s $510 at stylehaus (323-655-5900 to order).
