TREND REPORT: SKORTS

Skorts hold a special place in our hearts here at stylehaus.  While we are totally over the now-ubiquitous Zara miniskort (you know the one…the piece that every blogger and her mom wore last season), skorts in and of themselves aren’t off-limits.  We actually LOVE the versastility of the hybrid piece: the femininity of a skirt with a comfort that only comes from knowing we won’t be flashing our undies if a breeze comes along.

fashion-trends-spring-2014

In fact, a skort is one must-have piece for the Spring season.  If you want in on the look, stylehaus has got you covered!  Stylist Janelle put together two street-style worthy looks with the “It” piece of the moment, all pieces courtesy of stylehaus.

Our yellow and black marble printed shorts have two free-flowing front panels, creating the illusion of a skirt.  The long length is so on-trend right now; remember our post on the popularity of Bermudas?  Janelle matched these edgy shorts with a distressed-looking sweater in black.  The result is an effortlessly cool outfit that Alexander Wang would be proud of.

Looking for something a little less dramatic?  Our neoprene skort with gold zipper detailing might be the skort for you!  We love the asymmetrical hemline, and the light color goes with absolutely everything.  Janelle opted for a blue suede tee shirt, making this look perfect for a Spring night out on the town.

All items (except for Janelle’s gorgeous boots) are available at stylehaus!  Call 323-655-5900 for pricing and sizing details.

IT FACTOR FRIDAY: BUTTERFLIES

Valentino Spring 2014 Couture

If the designers at Valentino have anything to do with it, butterflies will be a huge trend for Spring and Fall.  Valentino’s runways were positively fluttering with butterfly wings for Spring 2014 Couture and Fall 2014!  However they involved the winged creatures- prints, 3D appliqués, or embroidered patches- the design duo behind Valentino made sure that there was no mistaking what would be the next big trend.  Here at stylehaus, our hears are aflutter for this look!

Valentino Fall 2014

While, of course, Valentino’s runway creations are a little too precious for real life, there is a way to incorporate the pretty little things into an outfit without coming off princess-y.  Our butterfly printed tank is just the thing!  In a classic palate of black and white, butterflies actually look pretty badass.

We love this tank worn with our white leather jacket, which is actually lined with butterfly-printed fabric!  If you want to try the trend, either of these pieces will satisfy your craving. Get them at stylehaus- 323-655-5900 to order.

Are you into this look?  How will you wear it?

GET THE LOOK: LACY SUNDAY

coachella-fashion-2014

Is there anything better than a lace dress?  Lace is so versatile.  It can be classic (a la Audrey Hepburn), rocker-chic (like Stevie Nicks), bohemian, sexy…the list goes on.  Our favorite lace piece at the moment is our floor-sweeping sheer lace gown.  Completely see-through, the dress features a high neckline and long sleeves for the perfect mix of sexy and sweet.

coachella-outfit-ideas-2014

The best thing about this dress?  You can layer whatever you want underneath!  Stylist Jessica went with a plain black slip, but there are countless ways to mix it up.  For a racy look, layer a nude slip underneath.  Rocker?  Try a black slip with a leather jacket on top.  Boho girls might want to try a tank and cutoffs, and those who want to try out the high-fashion look should reach for black high-waisted booty shorts and a corset-like bra.

coachella-fashion-2014

We’re picturing this piece at Coachella, layered over a little bikini top and shorts!  Add a cross-body bag over top, and the look is festival ready.

How would you wear this piece?  If you want to grab it for yourself, it’s $510 at stylehaus (323-655-5900 to order).

THREE WAYS TO WEAR: BLUE SUEDE

You might remember some of our new blue pieces from last week’s post on the perforation trend.  Bethany tried the blue suede shorts with a matching perforated jacket, and all of us here at stylehaus fell in love with the color.  Those two pieces actually arrived with another blue suede friend, a classic shift top, and the three can be mixed and matched in endless ways!  Here’s how all of our stylists are rocking the look:

Long blue shorts get an edgy update from a perforated biker jacket.  A neutral gray tank lets the cobalt blue pieces shine, and classic pumps are a simple finishing touch.

No need to mix things up too much!  The blue shorts look great paired with a matchy-matchy top, as seen on stylist Jessica.  A big black top-handle purse breaks up the all-over color, and hot pink lipstick pairs perfectly with blue!

Not a matchy-matchy girl?  No problem.  Stylist Janelle rocks the blue jacket with black skinny jeans and a purple and white striped top.  This look seamlessly mixes edgy & preppy, and we love it.

All pieces available at stylehaus, e-mail jessica@stylehaus for sizing and pricing details.

IT FACTOR FRIDAY: PERFORATION

One of Spring’s biggest trends is perforation.  Fishnet, jersey net, you name it- if it’s got little holes in it, it’s cool.  The look was seen practically everywhere on the Spring runways; most notably at Alexander Wang, Sister by Sibling, Elizabeth and James, and Jeremy Scott (you can read our first report on fishnet here).

At stylehaus, we made sure to place our orders for the best netted looks around, and the Spring merch has finally started to arrive!  Our lastest shipment was filled with perforation- on everything from a tee shirt to a leather skirt to a suede biker jacket.  Bethany shows you how to rock the look with the best stylehaus pieces:

Bethany’s style is pretty minimal: leather pants, a white tee, and a great blazer does it for her every time.  With this perforated white tee, Bethany can ditch her usual blazer: the shirt is too cute to cover up!  The high neckline balances out the sometimes-risque look of fishnet, and a collar necklace brings all the attention up to Bethany’s glowing face.  This is such an easy, fresh way to wear this trend!

Nothing’s cooler than perforated leather, so even though Bethany isn’t much of a skirt girl, she had to try this piece on.  The exposed zipper and hardcore leather lend this piece an edgy vibe, so Bethany softened it up with a gorgeous butterfly blouse.  Fierce & feminine all at once!

Since the weather is warming up, a perforated jacket is the must-have piece of the moment.  This jacket ensures you’ll have all the look of a badass biker jacket, with the much-needed (in LA at least) ventilation of the netted material.  What makes the jacket even better?  Matching suede shorts!! We cannot get enough of this outfit.

GET THE LOOK: TIBI FALL 2014

new-york-fashion-week-fall-2014

Our favorite show of the season (so far) was, surprisingly, Tibi.  We say “surprisingly” because the contemporary label has never really been a fashion heavy hitter- but this past collection was a whole different story.  Tibi’s Fall 2014 collection was high-fashion but wearable, NYC-friendly but also appropriate in the countryside.  The colors, layering, and accessories were all spot-on; we really can’t get enough.

new-york-fashion-week-fall-2014

The best part about the collection?  It’s wearable right now.   With some styling tricks and current-season pieces, we managed to recreate the fresh-off-the-runway looks right here at stylehaus!

new-york-fashion-week-2014

new-york-fashion-week-fall-2014

The big color of the show was powder blue, which is everywhere nowadays.  We recently received the most amazing baby-blue skinny jeans at stylehaus ($375) and knew they’d be perfect for nailing the Tibi look.  Since this collection was all about oversized layers, stylist Janelle topped the jeans with a black high-low dress ($205) and her own long gray vest.  A black hat was a must (the one pictured here is from Forever 21- go get it!).  We LOVE the fun layers here!

Unexpected layers were a huge part of the Tibi show, with skirts worn over slim pants being the best example of this.  It was easy to get the look with stylehaus pieces!  The same blue jeans worked well with a black leather skirt ($365).  Since wearing a skirt over pants is a lot of look, we kept the top portion simple with a classic gray knit ($64).  And, of course, a black hat a la Tibi.

new-york-fashion-week-2014

new-york-fashion-week-fall-2014

Another way Tibi played with proportion was through classic silhouettes, like short shorts paired with an oversized sweater.  Although shorts don’t really scream “Fall”, Tibi made it work by styling short hemlines with knee-high boots.  Stylist Janelle paired our stylehaus leather shorts ($695) with a sheer black hoodie ($189), and accessorized with her own boots.  This look is simultaneously high-fashion and low-maintenance- the perfect combo for laid-back Angelenos.

If you’re loving the Tibi collection as much as we are, come grab the look at stylehaus!  All piece pictured (except Janelle’s vest & boots) are available for purchase at stylehaus.  Come in or call 323-655-5900 to order!

3 VALENTINE’S DAY OUTFITS PERFECT FOR ANY OUTING

Valentine’s Day (or Galentine’s Day, whichever one you’ll be celebrating) is just over a week away!  Some of us here at stylehaus have big plans, some of us are staying in, and some of us are awaiting V Days surprises.  We don’t want Valentine’s Day to include any stress- we just wanna sit back, relax, sip wine, and eat chocolate- so figuring out our outfits in advance is a must.  Once that’s out of the way, we can focus on enjoying ourselves!

Stylist Jessica is hoping for a romantic dinner with her longtime bf, so a cocktail dress is in order.  She loves this embellished skater dress from stylehaus, and we do too!  The sheer material at the chest and neckline lends some sex appeal, but the flirty a-line skirt is girly & sweet.  All-black is a little dramatic for Valentine’s, so Jessica brightened up the look with a red crocodile clutch- and her signature red lips!

valentines-day-outfit-ideas

Bethany’s not quite sure what she’ll be doing for Valentine’s Day yet, so she put together an outfit that’ll be appropriate for any occasion.  Leather pants, classic pumps, a silky tank, and a sharp blazer work together to give off a polished but sexy vibe that’d be perfect for a fancy dinner, drinks at the bar, or dancing with friends.

If you’re planning on a day-date for Valentine’s Day, stylist Janelle has the perfect look for you!  Our new powder blue jeans are so soft and pretty- we love how romantic this color is.  A plain white tee can be dressed up or down, and Janelle’s red, white, and pink striped jacket adds a celebratory pop of V-Day color.  Toughen the look up with studded boots a la Janelle, or add simple ballet flats for a more feminine feel.

If you want to steal Janelle’s daytime-casual style, stop into stylehaus at The Grove to try these pieces on!

MARINA MONDAY: RIDING BOOTS

In today’s Marina Monday post Marina shares the chicest alternative to heels: flat riding boots!

I’ve been getting a little burnt out on heels lately.  When I’m having a super-busy week and running around from meeting to meeting, heels just aren’t an option.  Instead, I turn to my favorite flat shoe: the riding boot!

Marina Monroe Fashion

A riding boot is a classic alternative to heels that’s always in style.   Whether I wear mine with jeans, leggings, or even a day dress, I always feel just as pulled-together as I would if I were wearing heels.

marina-monroe-los-angeles-stylist

The latest addition to my collection is this fab pair from Loeffler Randall (clearly I didn’t stop at just boots…hehe)!  The ever-so-slight wedge heel gives them a ladylike edge, and I’m obsessed with the reddish-brown color.  Right now I’m wearing them over my skinny jeans, but I can’t wait to pair them with light denim cutoffs when the weather gets warmer!  You can grab a pair here.

Want some more riding boot outfits?  Try them with jeans and a button down/pull over sweater combo, with a pleated knee-length skirt and a fitted blazer, with a mini skirt and oversized cable-knit sweater, or with leggings and a menswear button down.  See?  They’re perfect with pretty much anything!

MARINA MONDAY: AS BY DF

In today’s Marina Monday post, Marina shares one of her favorite leather jacket brands, AS by DF.

One of my favorite brands that we stock at stylehaus is AS by DF, the upscale sister brand of Alpine Stars.  Designed by Denise Focil, the label focuses on sleek, refined separates for the global traveler and offers gorgeous leathers, the perfect cozy sweaters, and wardrobe staples that are anything but basic.  Every season I have to add at least one AS by DF leather jacket to my collection, and this season it was this luxurious forest green version!

Alpine-Stars-ASbyDF

The mix of colors on this jacket- green body, black sleeves, gold hardware- reminded me of my favorite colorblocked Celine Trapeze bag!  This deep green feels almost like a neutral that I can throw on over anything, but it looks especially sleek & chic with an all-black outfit.   I chose an AS by DF lace top to wear underneath (also available at stylehaus!) and added my trusty leather leggings to the mix.

alpine-stars-asbydf

Some simple gold rings from Kami Lerner and shades from Karen Walker completed the “girl on the go” vibe!

I love this mix because I feel like I could go anywhere in it:  the airport, out for drinks, a business meeting, or shopping for a client.  Leather simultaneously says “laid-back” and “luxury”, especially AS by DF leather :)

Trend Report: Three in One

pink-pants-graphic-sweatshirt

Here at stylehaus we pride ourselves on having a great selection of both trendy pieces and classics, and we usually like to mix the two.  Sometimes we can’t resist piling on the trends, though- there are too many fun pieces here to limit ourselves to just one per outfit!  So we set out to find a way to layer a bunch of trendy items in one chic, pulled-together look and stylist Janelle hit the nail on the head.  Her outfit here mixes a graphic sweatshirt (huge) with a crazy statement necklace (even bigger) and pink pants (yes please)– and it works.

graphic-sweatshirt-pink-pants

Graphic sweatshirts have been the “It” item of the past few seasons; it’s kinda crazy how designers are still coming up with funny/quirky things to emblazon on the front of our sweats.  The latest graphic sweatshirt at stylehaus is our beloved “Smokin Granny” sweater, an ode to the cigar-rolling ladies of Havana.  Since this top has so many colors in it- pink, blue, green, orange, brown- finding a pair of pants to match wasn’t hard.

graphic-sweatshirt-pink-pants

graphic-sweatshirt-pink-pants

Janelle reached for the perfect pair of baby-pink pants.  Since the shade of pink here is so soft, the combination of crazy sweatshirt + colorful pants actually works really well!  If you remember our “It Factor” post on pink a few weeks ago, you’ll know that pink was the color for fall/winter.  The newest runway collections have shown that our fave girly hue will be around & on-trend for a few more seasons, so now’s the time to invest!  We only have one pair of pink pants left at stylehaus…call 323-655-5900 to grab them first!

graphic-sweatshirt-pink-pants

On top of all of it, Janelle layered a funky statement necklace.  The extra layer added a “je ne sais quoi” to the outfit- it helped make the mix look carefree and easy.  Plus, it’s always nice to add a bright pop of color!

All of these pieces (except for Janelle’s sick white pumps) are available in-store!  Come pop by some time and we’ll help you pick out the best trends to wear together.
