Boss Bomber Jackets

Be gone basic bomber!

1970’s boho may be storming the runways, but one key piece for Fall 2014 comes straight out of the 80’s. I chose to write about bomber jackets this week for three reasons.

3 Reasons To Wear A Bomber Jacket In Fall 2014

1. Bomber jackets are ridiculously comfortable.

Now that Summer is finished, we can finally put away our exposed midriff and devote ourselves to pre-Thanksgiving stomach stretches. During Spring/Summer, I stretch my stomach inwards. But during Fall/Winter, sweet forgiving Fall/Winter, I vigorously challenge my stomach outwards and onwards, working through Eater’s Restaurant Lists with rabid enthusiasm. Bomber jackets are fabulous for disguising a post-eating frenzy bulge.

 2. Bomber jackets look cool in a super chill, I woke up like this way.

Effortless style is the epitome of chic. I never want anyone to look at me and think “she’s trying really hard,” even when “trying hard” is an understatement. Bomber jackets make me feel like an off duty model during New York Fashion Week, who are incidentally the biggest fans of bomber jackets. Models know what’s up with the bomber.

3. Bomber jackets are a fabulous foil for transitional weather.

What is transitional weather? The weather you are currently residing in, no matter your longitude and latitude. Light laying is key at this time, and the bombers of 2014 are light enough to layer and roomy enough to accommodate more layers.

The Breakfast Club may have bonded over youthful disillusionment, but they just as easily could have found common ground in the casual yet versatile bomber jacket, which was worn by virtually every mover and shaker to grace the neon screen between 1981-1989.

Bomber jackets are enjoying a rad renaissance thanks to the plethora of textures, patterns, shapes, and textures being used by designers high and low alike. One near-universal trait of Fall 2014’s bomber is light luxury. These jackets exude easy athleticism, and wear far less heavily than their Pretty In Pink era ancestors.

Topshop, Monki, & Sandro

Bomber jackets appeared everywhere during Spring/Summer 2015 Fashion week, on runways as different as Dior and Public School. Raf Simons’ cheekily blended retro-redux and dashes of norm-core with delightful curvilinear bomber-jackets in petite jacquard floral, emphasizing that bright bombers suit both men and women.

At Recent CDFA winner/hipster darling label Public School’s Spring/Summer 2015 Show, printed bomber jackets practically strolled off the runway and into fashionista arms. Not bad for Public School’d very first Women’s Collection. Alexander Wang paired bright, sporty bomber jackets with dress pants in a masterful stroke of mix and match.

Retail analytics company EDITD, which analyzes the biggest Fashion Week Trends based on mentions, dubbed bomber jackets the third biggest trend of Spring/Summer 2015 Fashion week, with 404 mentions.

Bomber jackets might have an even bigger celebrity following than yoga. Fans include Rita Ora, Cara Delevingne, Georgia May Jagger, Rihanna, Chloe Grace Moretz, Ciara, Emma Watson, Emma Roberts, Lena Dunham, Fearne Cotton, and Kristen Stewart.

Bombs awayyyy.

Triple Tip Thursday

Fresh from NYFW Spring 2015: Colored Leather, Cinched Belts, and Dreamy Dip Dye!

1. Colored Leather

When black is too basic.

Last week’s NYFW was revelatory in many ways. As a card carrying leather lover, I was delighted to see so many ensembles of my favorite material in every shade imaginable. In particular, Proenza Schouler’s bright to the point of borderline neon leather pieces made my heart skip a beat. A fabulously flexible material, leather can be constructed into clothes for any occasion or environment.

I’ll never surrender or stop loving a classic black leather jacket- it’s called a classic for a reason- but if you want to really blow the world away, go bold and get noticed in colorful leather!

Just make sure to keep the rest of your ensemble neutral- runway models might be able to pull off head to toe fire engine red leather, but normal people might end up looking like lost costume party guests.

2. Skinny Belt

Cinch everything.

The one accessory you must acquire (although I hope you acquire more than one) for Fall/Winter 2014 is an elegant belt. Last week’s shows were dominated by looks cinched neatly at the waist, even though what lay beneath the belt varied wildly from show to show.

If there’s one thing all designers can agree on, it’s that belts are back and borderline mandatory. The belt to have is a leather waist-whittling piece, with a twist. Cinching, the new trend about to go blockbuster, demands a belt that’s anything but matchy matchy.

For a street style friendly look, choose a belt that doesn’t match OR violently mismatch, but simply strikes and onlooker as slightly out of place. Like you just tossed it on as an afterthought before making your way out into the world, effortlessly stylish. If they only knew!

Put a glamorous twist on the skinny belt trend by adding jewel details.

3. Dip Dye

Luxurious boho chic is all about the color blend.

Indie brands like Tia Cibani and Costello Tagliapietra plucked my heart and, ultimately, purse strings with softly dip dyed garments that strike me as the height of eco friendly chic.

Even the gas guzzling carnivores among us must acknowledge the subtle, let haunting beauty of luxurious fabrics dipped in heady hues and blended together in that oh so recognize dip dye manner.

Don’t worry, I’m not advocating you to break out your bored college shirt creations! Tia Cibani mixed natural with structured elements by applying the dip dye to crisp, tailored pieces such as vests and shifts. The contrast between edge and blend is absolutely divine!

Triple Tip Thursday

Haute hipster hats, royal blue hues, and neoprene prints are everything to us.

This week anyway.

1. Hipster Haute Hat

Panama Hats and Fedoras in dusky neutral hues are 2014’s must have headwear.

Panama Hats and Fedoras continue to dominate street style and editorial spreads for a reason: they’re modern, flexible, flattering, and add a juicy dose of boho rock and roll to any ensemble. While the traditional iterations of both style involve straw, this Season woven headwear is being eschewing for fierce fabrics in deep, almost somber tones such as chocolate and ebony. The best versions are made distinct by a touch of metal work or sophisticated applique, like a gunmetal buckle or grosgrain band.

Effortless is attitude is what these pieces are all about, with a structured base lending maturity and broad (but never floppy) edges whispering “I woke up cool”. If you’re just getting started on this trend, make your life easier by veering towards classic black. It’s not only the easiest, it’s the trendiest; Yang Li, Kenneth Cole Collection, Alexis Mabille, Tibi and Dion Lee sent models strutting in broad black hats for their Fall 2014 shows. You can scoop one up at many Grove boutiques and fantastic hat carts.

2. Royal Blue

Royal blue is raging on.

When the colors of next season’s collections became clear, it was obvious that blue had a strong runway presence. From cerulean, cyan and cobalt to navy, sapphire and periwinkle, blue is undisputedly about to blow up and all over our collective wardrobes. Yet my favorite shade of blue for the upcoming months has a majestic effect: royal blue.

Bolder than navy but less flashy than sapphire, royal blue occupies the gorgeous territory between bright and neutral. In particular, my inspiration came from Tibi’s Fall Campaign in which deep but bright shades of royal blue popped from the page and into my imagination. Stand out and stand tall in royal blue coating on crepe dresses, button-down tops, pointed-toe pumps, and of course a fabulous coat.

3. Neoprene Dream

Space Age Super Fabric is everywhere, praise the modern age.

Neoprene is a spongy and slimming material made from synthetic rubber and seen more and more in fashion from high street to side streets. The wonderfully useful fabric is used on everything from T-shirts to wedding dresses because of it’s utterly unique qualities, particularly the way it holds a solid, structured shape without suffocating or strangling. In fact, for all it’s form fitting abilities, neoprene manages to feel both breezy and light.

Oh, and did I mention that neoprene doesn’t wrinkle? And washes easily? If neoprene sounds too good to be true, pinch yourself, and then go shopping because neoprene wondrous abilities are very true and very here. Neoprene looks good on everybody and wears as an ideal reflect of today’s tech-forward, androgynous, casual American culture.

Post Coachella: Detox to Your Pre-Festival Self

large(via we heart it)

Coachella 2014 has come and gone and although some of us had to live the experience through social media and hamidown stories, we still feel as though we were right there with you. The only thing that separates us non-Coachella goers from the veterans is the aftermath. We do not feel your pain, but we can definitely help you get rid of it. Give your body some much-needed self-love to restore your vitals back to normal.

Beautiful woman applying hair conditionerHair

The sand and wind have damaged your locks and they’re in need of a cleanse.

DIY: Put on your favorite Sex and the City episodes and let it all soak in. Dry, oily or combination, Pure Jojoba has the perfect in-home hair mask guide that is quick, easy and straight to the point.

Salon: It may not be at the salon, but a salon treatment at home is always a great option. Kérastase has a conditioning mask, giving your hair intense nourishment to rid the dryness its dealt with in the California desert.

We hope that you’ve had the chance to wipe off all that make-up by now but a good facial scrub will open those pores and allow them to breathe.

DIY: Homemade face scrubs are simple and use your basic household products. Check out She Knows for easy steps to four different scrubs that will leave your skin feeling fresh and new.

Salon: A deep poor cleansing facial could be more of your thing. Make an appointment with Bella Skin Institute, here in LA, so you can sit back and relax. I don’t know about you, but a regenerating and rejuvenating facial sounds like the perfect ending to a weekend of fun.

Paws & Claws

Even if you had the luxury of being in VIP, your nails are still feeling the aftermath of the sand storms. Maybe the toes were sheltered in ankle boots but if you’re digits are getting the treatment, why not get the whole package, right?

DIY: Before you start to soak, play a movie you’ve seen a thousand times and want to see a thousand times more. A little background noise makes the experience that much more enjoyable and if it’s a chic flick, maybe even a little more girly. Add some flower petals to your water for a touch of beauty and get to work on those nails, lady. Need a spring color? Essie’s hide & go chic is a perfect transition from winter to summer.

Salon: Maybe you just want to let someone pamper you and that’s ok. Head over to the Style Bar at Nordstrom The Grove. Not only is it open seven days a week, but they offer other beautify services as well. Can’t beat a one stop shop!

Vitamin C helps rejuvenate the inner body to fight off any sickness you may get from partying too hard. Your body is not 100% so give it some help with a little TLC and a multivitamin as well.

fluroide detox beverage

Eat clean and green along with some antioxidants, like blueberries, thrown into the mix. Get your immune system back with juicing and healthy snacks.

Release the muscle tension from the hardcore dance parties with yoga and/or pilates. Don’t be shy to get a good sweat in with a cardio session to push out impurities from drinks, food truck food and whatever other not-so-healthy consumptions.

Make a new playlist on Spotify or iTunes to calm down your inner EDM’er and embrace the soothing sounds of artists like Lana Del Ray and Adele.

Grab a new book to lose yourself in. Forget about the desert, as much as possible, and clear your mind to get back to reality. A good book and a glass of red wine is sure to calm your inner party girl.

The most important item after a long weekend of endless nights is rest. Get your eight hours in each night to help your body recoup. Allowing your body enough time to do nothing but repair is the best medicine you can take.

15 Last Minute Tips & Tricks to a Perfect Coachella Body

If you’re a die hard Coachella goer, you know all about the Coachella Diet. Last minute juice cleanses, multiple hours of working out and obnoxious detox dieting leave you without the quick results you were hoping for and days of fatigue from malnourishment. This all sounds so boring, as I shake my finger at you, but it’s true. Don’t be silly. You will never get the results you dream of in two days but you can beat the bloat and feel slimmer with a few tips and tricks.

With just a few days till Coachella kick off, it’s not too late.

1. Stay away from sugars and salts.

sugar(photo by yassminelnazer)

We all know that sugar and salt keep us from looking sexy in a crop top but it’s the best tip to follow. Love your vanilla latte in the morning? Ask for sugar-free syrup. It’s only for a few days and you’ll be happy you said no to both. Your cutoffs will thank you when you’re jumping up and down to Calvin Harris

2. Drink lots of water.

glasses-water(photo by Skinny Mom)

This sounds like an oxymoron as most people think the more water you drink, the more bloated you get. Sure at first it feels that way but when consistent, even just two days in a row, your body will stop retaining as much and your water weight will vanish.

3. Eat more…more often that is.

small meals(photo by Mr. Shut Up and Train)

Don’t just think one big meal will get you by and make you skinny. Eating small meals every three hours will boost your metabolism, firing up your fat-burner. Who doesn’t want that? This also stops you from binging and eating too much in one sitting. Get Coachella smart and start snacking often.

4. HIIT up your cardio routine.

cardio(photo by GymRa)

HIIT routines, or High-Intensity Interval Training, get your heart rate pumping, metabolism up, and the endurance you’ll need to jam out three days straight. You train for a marathon, right? Why not train for a weekend rock-out sesh? A few days of interval cardio will help burn those extra calories you’re looking to say good-bye to.

5. Get a spray tan.

All hard work deserves a reward and what better way to show off your body definition then glowing skin. Dark tones show curves and muscles off in the way we want them to so start a California festival weekend off the right way with a sunkissed look.

Not feeling crop top ready, even after all the fitness and health tips? No worries. The beautiful thing about fashion is it can trick the eye and make us feel super sexy, especially when our problem areas are covered. Have no fear, there are too many options in the Coachella fashion world to not feel in style.

1. Show skin somewhere else.

havana top

The stomach definitely gets a lot of attention during the summer but we forget about those other great areas. Show a little peak-a-boo skin in a top like this Havana Paisley top by Clover Canyon. Style it with the matching shorts for an allover look, both available at

2. A little side boob never hurt.

Because I'm addicted 2

The side boob top is just as famous as the crop top, if not more. With a bandeau or a triangle bikini, this style covers the belly you may not want to show, but showcases some skin for a sexy Coachella look.

3. Some other fun options- overalls w/ a crop top and jumpsuits!

overalls & jumpsuit(photo by PHASSHION and stylehaus)

Another great way to hide the belly is with overalls. This trend is hot right now and with a crop top, you’ll get some skin action and still feel comfortable in your outfit. Still not hot about the crop top? Pair it with a muscle tee or tank for a more covered look that’s still Coachella fashion inspired. Don’t forget about the jumpsuit. This Bec & Bridge Gourami piece is perfect for a day in the sun, with major side boob and back attention.

4. A flannel around your waist.

tumblr_inline_muv0wu76hF1rgem0o(photo by E! Online)

A flannel has many purposes, including its ability to hide unwanted areas. Not only does it accentuate your curves, it also has the ability to add them for us ladies that don’t have much. A great piece to add to your overalls and crop top during the day, then throw it on for the cooler nights.

5. Boyfriend shorts.

Coachella3(photo by POPSUGAR)

Not all of us can wear tight fitting high waisted shorts. A looser fitting short, like the boyfriend short, is a great option that’s relaxed, comfortable, and completely Coachella worthy. Pair it with a slouchy tank, floppy hat, flat ankle boots and statement arm candy.

You’ve prepped yourself days before on the fitness and health side. Now it’s time for Coachella. What can you eat, drink, and do at Coachella to skip the bloat?

1. Vodka and water with MiO.

0723-mio-water-enhancer-02(photo by NEAROF)

A smart pregame is the perfect way to cut out the sugar and carbs. A vodka water with a little squirt of MiO for flavor leaves you feeling guilt free and still a part of the party. With a pregame that’s sure to not add too many calories, you leave room for the beers you can’t say no to later on.

2. Almonds and KIND bars.

f3b5102965366ff4_almond-tin(photo by fitsugar)

Sure there are healthy options at Coachella but when you just can’t leave your spot on the grass, you won’t be sorry when you’re crossbody bag is filled with almond packs and KIND bars. Both are great when on the go and will survive the heat of the California desert.

3. Pick the lean and green options.

Healthy drink, vegetable juice, studio shot(photo by Lean It Up)

When visiting the Heineken House, skip the savory donut with fig, basil, and goat cheese. No, no, no. With a farmers market, The Terrace, and the Clover Juice Bar at the Camping Counter, you do not have any excuses. So many great guilt free options to choose from that will keep your tastebuds happy and your tummy bloat free.

4. Get your yoga & pilates on.

barefoot-in-the-park-yoga-6-25-09-45(photo by Lovely Healthy)

We know the last thing you’re thinking about is working out at Coachella but for those who want to give it a try, a little zen and strengthening is offered early in the day. No better way to start your day then with a relaxing moment before the party gets crazy again.

5. Get creative.

lat8-20events-20m-20-20131108151945986376-620x349(photo credit The Sydney Morning Herald)

Twister, hula hoop and relay races are just a few options for the competitive type. Sober or not, these outrageous child-like activities will get your heart rate going, keep your spirit young, and help burn the ridiculous amounts of alcohol that will be consumed. If competition is not your thing, shake it just a little harder during the Disclosure set.

Whether you’re a health nut or not, in the end, we all want to look and feel comfortable. The end result is what you make it. Take these tips with you and pass them along. Have fun with health, enjoy fashion, and get your Coachella on.

Tokyo was cold, especially for a girl who’s used to the LA sunshine!  My wardrobe wasn’t exactly appropriate for the weather, so I had to do some spur-of-the-moment shopping (which I totally didn’t mind) while I was away.  This outfit was the result!

In Turkey (where I stayed before Tokyo), I encountered the same problem so I scooped up this cute printed sweater.  I love the random print- cartoon dogs, candies, and flowers- but I knew I needed to toughen it up a bit.  I paired it with a full leather outfit to counteract its “cutesy” vibe.

My leather pants from Helmut Lang were perfect for the weather, since they look sleek but actually pack a lot of warmth.  Over my sweater I layered a jacket from The Eternal, which I love because of its textured panels.  I had to buy a hat on Harajuku Street to combat the cold, so I picked the now-classic “Comme Des F***down” beanie.  My fave Balenciaga boots added some edge!

Have you ever bought spur-of-the-moment to keep warm that you ended up loving?

Is there anything better than a lace dress?  Lace is so versatile.  It can be classic (a la Audrey Hepburn), rocker-chic (like Stevie Nicks), bohemian, sexy…the list goes on.  Our favorite lace piece at the moment is our floor-sweeping sheer lace gown.  Completely see-through, the dress features a high neckline and long sleeves for the perfect mix of sexy and sweet.

The best thing about this dress?  You can layer whatever you want underneath!  Stylist Jessica went with a plain black slip, but there are countless ways to mix it up.  For a racy look, layer a nude slip underneath.  Rocker?  Try a black slip with a leather jacket on top.  Boho girls might want to try a tank and cutoffs, and those who want to try out the high-fashion look should reach for black high-waisted booty shorts and a corset-like bra.

We’re picturing this piece at Coachella, layered over a little bikini top and shorts!  Add a cross-body bag over top, and the look is festival ready.

How would you wear this piece?  If you want to grab it for yourself, it’s $510 at stylehaus (323-655-5900 to order).

Valentine’s Day (or Galentine’s Day, whichever one you’ll be celebrating) is just over a week away!  Some of us here at stylehaus have big plans, some of us are staying in, and some of us are awaiting V Days surprises.  We don’t want Valentine’s Day to include any stress- we just wanna sit back, relax, sip wine, and eat chocolate- so figuring out our outfits in advance is a must.  Once that’s out of the way, we can focus on enjoying ourselves!

Stylist Jessica is hoping for a romantic dinner with her longtime bf, so a cocktail dress is in order.  She loves this embellished skater dress from stylehaus, and we do too!  The sheer material at the chest and neckline lends some sex appeal, but the flirty a-line skirt is girly & sweet.  All-black is a little dramatic for Valentine’s, so Jessica brightened up the look with a red crocodile clutch- and her signature red lips!

Bethany’s not quite sure what she’ll be doing for Valentine’s Day yet, so she put together an outfit that’ll be appropriate for any occasion.  Leather pants, classic pumps, a silky tank, and a sharp blazer work together to give off a polished but sexy vibe that’d be perfect for a fancy dinner, drinks at the bar, or dancing with friends.

If you’re planning on a day-date for Valentine’s Day, stylist Janelle has the perfect look for you!  Our new powder blue jeans are so soft and pretty- we love how romantic this color is.  A plain white tee can be dressed up or down, and Janelle’s red, white, and pink striped jacket adds a celebratory pop of V-Day color.  Toughen the look up with studded boots a la Janelle, or add simple ballet flats for a more feminine feel.

If you want to steal Janelle’s daytime-casual style, stop into stylehaus at The Grove to try these pieces on!

In today’s Marina Monday post Marina shares the chicest alternative to heels: flat riding boots!

I’ve been getting a little burnt out on heels lately.  When I’m having a super-busy week and running around from meeting to meeting, heels just aren’t an option.  Instead, I turn to my favorite flat shoe: the riding boot!

Marina Monroe Fashion

A riding boot is a classic alternative to heels that’s always in style.   Whether I wear mine with jeans, leggings, or even a day dress, I always feel just as pulled-together as I would if I were wearing heels.

The latest addition to my collection is this fab pair from Loeffler Randall (clearly I didn’t stop at just boots…hehe)!  The ever-so-slight wedge heel gives them a ladylike edge, and I’m obsessed with the reddish-brown color.  Right now I’m wearing them over my skinny jeans, but I can’t wait to pair them with light denim cutoffs when the weather gets warmer!  You can grab a pair here.

Want some more riding boot outfits?  Try them with jeans and a button down/pull over sweater combo, with a pleated knee-length skirt and a fitted blazer, with a mini skirt and oversized cable-knit sweater, or with leggings and a menswear button down.  See?  They’re perfect with pretty much anything!
