MARINA MONDAY: HELLO YELLOW

marina-monroe-fashion

Lately, I can’t get enough of the color yellow.  It’s a huge color for Spring 2014, and stylehaus has been steadily receiving more and more yellow pieces.  I’m surprised that I’m loving this color so much, because it’s a little brighter than my usual palette.  I’ve found that if I toughen it up a bit- by pairing it with black, or by choosing yellow pieces in edgy fabrics- yellow feels 100% me!

This laser-cut leather matching set is one of my favorite new looks.  It actually reminds me a little of the Alexander Wang Fall 2014 show finale.  Since  I love a good matching set, I decided to wear the yellow jacket and shorts together.  To break up the color a little bit, I wore a printed tank from my upcoming Haus line (get excited!).  A flapper-esque necklace from Jared Jamin added a dose of old-school glam.

I always wear my shorts with black tights, and this outfit was no exception.  Since yellow and black can come off a little bumblebee-ish, I knew I needed to add another neutral to the mix.  Brown leather riding boots from Loeffler Randall did the trick!

For the finishing touch I grabbed my newest clutch from Veda- I love the clear plastic panel in the center!  And, of course, my pink teddy bear phone case made an appearance.

See?  Even the edgiest girls can get into yellow.

GET THE LOOK: LACY SUNDAY

coachella-fashion-2014

Is there anything better than a lace dress?  Lace is so versatile.  It can be classic (a la Audrey Hepburn), rocker-chic (like Stevie Nicks), bohemian, sexy…the list goes on.  Our favorite lace piece at the moment is our floor-sweeping sheer lace gown.  Completely see-through, the dress features a high neckline and long sleeves for the perfect mix of sexy and sweet.

coachella-outfit-ideas-2014

The best thing about this dress?  You can layer whatever you want underneath!  Stylist Jessica went with a plain black slip, but there are countless ways to mix it up.  For a racy look, layer a nude slip underneath.  Rocker?  Try a black slip with a leather jacket on top.  Boho girls might want to try a tank and cutoffs, and those who want to try out the high-fashion look should reach for black high-waisted booty shorts and a corset-like bra.

We’re picturing this piece at Coachella, layered over a little bikini top and shorts!  Add a cross-body bag over top, and the look is festival ready.

How would you wear this piece?  If you want to grab it for yourself, it’s $510 at stylehaus (323-655-5900 to order).

Get The Look: New Year’s Eve Part 2

New Year’s Eve is almost upon us!  If you’re still in need of an outfit for the night, you’re not alone.  We have so many ideas, but haven’t decided which direction we want to go in yet.  Stylist Janelle loved her black and gold looks from this blog post, but now she’s wondering if she should go in a more non-traditional direction.  Feeling the same way?  We’ve got you covered!  Here are two amazing NYE options from stylehaus:

IMG_6018_result

This romantic archived Lanvin dress is so dreamy- we love the way its silk and tulle materials languidly drape over the body.  Since this is an archived item, this dress is sure to be the only one of its kind out on New Year’s Eve!  A crystal clear statement necklace adds a little sparkle without distracting from the elegant dress, and black tights are a must if you’ll be out in the cold.  If you want a totally unique NYE outfit, this is your best bet!

Still, we can’t really consider “gray” a color.  If you want to add a little bit more intrigue to your NYE outfit, go for green!  As Pantone’s Color of the Year for 2013, this emerald green tone is totally appropriate for the last night of the year.  Its stretchy knit fabric hugs curves in all the right ways, and it’s the perfect backdrop for a badass leather jacket.  Every outfit needs some sparkle on New Year’s Eve, so add a statement necklace or two to the mix and voila- a fun NYE look that’s anything but basic.

If these looks are screaming your name, you can get them at stylehaus.  Stop by our location at the Grove, or call 323-655-5900 to order!

The Look For Less: J.Mendel vs. H&M

J Mendel Pre Fall 2014

While browsing the latest Pre Fall collections today on Style.com, we saw an outfit at J.Mendel that looked oddly familiar.  Where have we seen his luxe black/white leather crackle print before? Oh, that’s right- H&M!

H&M- Designer Look For Less

We LOVE J.Mendel’s version, but if we’re honest with ourselves, we will never spend the $5000+ that this look would cost us.  $100 for a matching set at H&M, though?  Totally doable.

Three Ways To Wear: Drop Waist Skirts

stylehaus-los-angeles-fashion

In an era of skater skirts and midi skirts, it’s hard to find something out there that’s totally unique.  Enter stylehaus’ latest skirt, the drop-waisted skirt.  The style was popular in the 1920s and has made brief appearances in the fashion scene ever since.  It’s starting to make its way back into style right now, and every stylist at stylehaus is excited to test-drive the trend!

While a drop-waist skirt can sometimes look old-fashioned, stylehaus’ interpretation is anything but.  Perforated and printed in a neo-leopard print of blue, red, and yellow, there’s no mistaking this piece for anything other than modern.  Since all of us loved the piece, we thought we’d share Three Ways To Wear it!

stylehaus-los-angeles-fashion

You might remember Janelle’s eclectic interpretation from this post.  We love how she brought a menswear touch to the feminine piece with an oversized button down tied at the waist!

stylehaus-los-angeles-fashion

Bethany gave this super-sweet skirt a subversive makeover with leather and boots.  A silky black blouse was a dramatic contrast against the bright printed skirt, and black leather boots and a black leather jacket made for a biker-chic look.  Only Bethany can make such a girly piece so badass!

stylehaus-los-angeles-style

Jessica took the skirt to the office with a conservative blouse and matchy-matchy blue blazer.  A tassel necklace was a node to the 1920s feel of the drop-waist skirt, but blue pointy-toed pumps kept the look modern.

Which way would you wear it?  If you want to put your own spin on this piece, you can grab it at stylehaus for $377!  Give us a call at 323-655-5900 to order.

Jessica: Graphic Content

As we mentioned in Janelle’s post last week, every stylehaus stylist has developed an obsession with our new tuxedo blazer.  It’s the perfect addition to any look, any style- it adds instant polish and class!  Janelle showed us how it works with her eclectic vibe, and today stylist Jessica shows us that this blazer can be feminine, too.

IMG_4270

Jessica favors dresses that show off her waistline, and finds it hard to find jackets or blazers that do the same.  When you’re wearing a dress that nips in at the waist, a sweater or coat that hits any lower ends up ruining the waist-whittling effect.  This blazer is now Jessica’s go-to topper, since its cropped fit and perfectly-placed button accentuate a small waistline instead of obscuring it!

IMG_4272

We love how she paired the black and white blazer with an equally-graphic black and white patterned dress.  The stark white blazer tempers the busy print without distracting from it, and the pointed, asymmetrical hem of the blazer mimicks the dress’ chevron stripes.   The masculine/feminine mix works so well- we could see this look going from the office (with tights) to cocktails with ease.

Want to try the look for yourself?  Both pieces are available at stylehaus!  You can grab the dress for $489 and the blazer for $428 by calling 323-655-5900 or e-mailing jessica@stylehaus.com.

Keep checking our blog throughout the week to see Bethany’s rock-and-roll spin on our favorite tuxedo blazer!

The Cool Shoulder

A trend that’s been slowly but surely sweeping the fashion nation for the past few seasons has finally hit full-force: the over-the-shoulder jacket.   While this trend isn’t anything new- think 50s teenagers with cardigans thrown over their dresses just-so- it’s resurfaced thanks to a new wave of polished dressing.

Simple, chic, everything we want to be

After a long time of grunge- and rocker-inspired trends, we’re seeing ladylike silhouettes and classic pieces make their way back into the spotlight.  The look is elegant in its simplicity, and the littlest details sometimes make the biggest impact.  Something as easy as shrugging a jacket over your shoulders- no need to actually take the time to put it on- can take your look to a whole new level of style.    As our stylist Janelle puts it, “It’s just so…chic!”

Makes sheer panels and leather ladylike

Janelle has been known to throw a jacket or two over her shoulders, and it works every time!  A thrown-on jacket is an elegant finishing touch that adds class to any outfit- whether it’s a sparkly tank and plaid pants or sweats and a tee.

Gives an office-appropriate suit a glam touch

stylehaus founder Marina Monroe regularly employs this fashion trick, too!  It’s perfect for in-between weather (you’ll be warm, but not too warm), and gives new life to a two-piece suit.

If you haven’t tried the trend yet, now’s the perfect time to give it a go.  The look was all over the Spring/Summer 2014 runways, most notably at Balmain, and it’s become a bona-fide street style go-to.  Shrug a little blazer on over a crop top and pencil skirt combo, or toss an evening coat over your cocktail dress.  A jacket thrown on just-so even makes tattered cutoffs and a tee shirt elegant!  What are you waiting for?  Enjoy the cool breeze on your arms!
