Fall 2014 Trend Guide

It seems like this season, we are celebrating and at this party, the hors d’oeuvres include color, comfort and music.

Fall 2014 Trend Guide

1. Get Cozy in Color

Fur, baby, fur! In a world where leather isn’t so frowned upon, we need to move on past the whole fur is mean thing. As Karl Lagerfeld says, “stressing over fur as a topic of issue is just childish.” I almost think fur is a requirement for fall, I think the leaves change colors when they sense the cozy plush being pulled from winter closets (or in Carrie Bradshaw’s case- the oven) everywhere. Fur doesn’t have to be so classic- it could be modern and fun and colorful.

2. Vibrating Edges

Two colors “vibrate” because they are opposite hues on the color wheel.  Both colors are equal in value, equal in intensity, but opposite in hue. This combination will result in this badass, ironically edgy.

3. Let’s Knit Together

Knit took over everything this season. Fall 2014 will forever be known as the season of knit. I mean, why not? There’s a certain sense of beauty and seemingly unattainable elegance when knit is styled perfectly. Whether it’s a daringly form-fitting dress from Lanvin to an androgynous head to toe knit ensemble from Haider Ackerman or something simple but pristine like a nice, whimsical sweater from Nina Ricci.

4. Let our Ensemble Dance

Fashion takes over Electronic Dance Music. Or is it that EDM takes over fashion? Fashion and music have always been BFF’s. I mean have you heard of Lady Gaga and Kanye? But this season, it doesn’t seem like music is wearing fashion, it is that fashion is wearing music.

New Year's (Style) Resolutions

The stylists here at stylehaus have all sorts of New Year’s Resolutions, including style resolutions.  No matter how seasoned a stylist is, there is always room to grow and experiment with personal style- since we are constantly evolving, it makes sense that our style should evolve too!  Here are our stylists’ New Year’s (Style) Resolutions:

Bethany:

Bethany is a fan of dressing comfortably, especially when it comes to office outfits.  You can always catching her in jeans or leather pants, a tee shirt, and a blazer- always super cute, but sometimes a little formulaic.  Bethany’s Style Resolution for 2014 is to jazz things up a bit!  There’s no need to sacrifice style for comfort, so Bethany is going to try to incorporate at least 1 jazzy piece into every comfy ensemble.

She’s already getting started!  Here, she jazzed up her tee shirt and leather pants with a luxurious fur stole and gold pumps.  We’re so excited to see what else Bethany comes up with in the New Year!

Janelle:

Janelle’s New Year’s Resolution, style or otherwise, is to start her fashion blog!  She’s been meaning to get started on this project for a while, and 2014 is her year.  On her yet-to-be-launched blog she’ll talk about her personal style and showcase her amazing outfits daily.

If her look here is any indication, we’re going to have to bookmark Janelle’s blog.  Her fun mix of patent leather and sparkles is irresistible!

Jessica:

Jessica has always been focused on dressing for her body type.  As a girl with a curvy hourglass shape, this usually means accentuating her waist and disguising her hips- but for 2014 Jessica wants to throw those “dress for your body type” rules out the window!  Once you’ve mastered the rules, you can start to break them in a smart and artistic way, and that’s exactly what Jessica plans to do.

As you can see, she’s ditching that hourglass shape and embracing oversized proportions.  Her cropped wide-leg pants are so unexpected, and even though her shift top and fluffy fur coat obscure her figure, it’s clear that Jessica is having fun with fashion- and really, that’s all that matters, right?

Marina Monday: New Year's Eve

In this week’s Marina Monday post, Marina shows you her New Year’s Eve outfit!  If you love this look as much as we do, give us a call to order!  Her dress and jacket are both available at stylehaus- 323-655-5900.

Marina Monroe New Year's Eve

It’s fun to get all dressed up for New Year’s Eve, but I’ve never been a dress girl.  To me, dresses are so uncomfortable- I hate feeling like a gust of wind could take control and flip my skirt up, and I especially hate when my legs are cold!  My NYE solution?  Layering a little dress over leather leggings.

When stylehaus received this skimpy metallic dress, I was confused; it didn’t seem to be enough material to be a full dress!  I liked it anyway though, and the futuristic vibes are totally appropriate for New Year’s Eve.  I layered it over skintight leather leggings, and loved the result.  A bedazzled pair of heels added a pop of color- plus, I needed something sparkly for NYE, right?

This dress is still pretty revealing, so I wanted the option of a jacket if I needed one.  This black nylon topper was a really fun contrast with my shiny dress– sporty meets sexy!

This outfit practically begged me to open up a bottle of bubbly.  Veuve is my usual standby, but I couldn’t resist the glow of this amazing Perrier Jouet box.  Yum!
