You Go Gingham

Fall 2014 may be pushing plaid, but Spring 2015 will shout “tiny check please”! That’s right, gingham is not just for picnics, plucky orphan girls, or cheesy Italian restaurants.

The gingham of Spring has a sexy, swingy vibe, sans the faintest trace of that Little House on The Prairie meets Pollyanna pattern you were forced to read in Junior High.

Altuzarra, DVF, and Michael Kors

Major designers such as Altuzarra and Diane Von Furstenberg exuded swinging 70’s with the cheeky geometric print splayed over dreamy dresses and posh twin sets.

Designers at Altuzarra told reporters that they were inspired by cult classics like Rosemary’s Baby to blend the sweetness of gingham with ultra sexy, half unbuttoned ensembles.

Here are 5 chic pieces to take gingham from the runway to the closet.

1. Knitz by For Love & Lemons Hit the Slopes Mini Dress by Free People

2. ‘Yoko’ Gingham Taffeta Bow Miniskirt by MARC BY MARC JACOBS

3. Cut-out Gingham Shell Top from Topshop

Sophisticated Schoolgirl: How To Rock The Plaid Mini

Screen Shot 2014-08-10 at 11.17.36 AM Plaid skirts can be chic, not childish. Inspired by Yves St Laurent Runway for Fall 2014 and the highly anticipated upcoming adaptation of ‘Outlander’ I’m teetering on the verge of tartan mania. Wear the sophisticated Scottish miniskirt with a wafting white box top or prim button up, Tall (but not too tall) boots, and a touch of androgyny for contrast. Your balancing details might include a chunky, menswear inspired timepiece or a sensible (if sensationally luxurious) structured handbag. When rocking the plaid mini, DO  mix and match plaid on plaid, and wear bold back glasses to hipster up your “school girl” vibe. DON’T wear over the knee socks- too Halloween- but below calf socks are preppy pretty.  I took 3 runway looks and created trendy yet timeless ready to wear ensembles guaranteed to score top marks in the school of life.

Some buy Vogue for the pretty pictures: Our Favorite Campaigns of Fall 2014

A great edition of Time has to have minimal advertising– I mean who wants to have to flip through endless advertisements for Activia? On the contrary, a  great edition of Vogue (or Elle or Harper’s or whatever) contains the best, most ravishing advertisements one can find- the season’s latest fashion campaigns. These campaigns can be so chic, so sexy, so sophisticated that sometimes, we can’t help but skip through the articles and “only look at the pretty pictures.” Middle school style.

Here are our favorite campaigns (reading distractions) of the season.

Jeremy Scott takes aver Moschino with a bang– or more appropriately, a burp. The young designer debuts as the new Moschino Creative Director with a McDonald’s inspired collection. The runway collection has been described by some critics as “trashy” and “over the top.” Other critics, on the other hand, enjoyed the playful collection by the young designer and described the collection as “delicious.”

Because of how the collection was shown on the runway and the critics’ sometimes harsh reviews, we expected Moschino to put out an ad campaign just as “over the top” and “delicious” but instead, what we got was an elegant ad campaign with some of New York’s most sophisticated.

Celebrated photographer Steven Meisel captured models Karen Elson, Raquel Zimmerman, Saskia De Brauw and Caroline Murphy in what seems to be a formal, high brow get together. But if you look closely, you can see the cheese  on Saskia’s dress and the other playful, clever details inspired by the world’s most well-known fast food chain.

And what’s more Elegant than Queen Linda? The “M” on the quilted shoulder bag does not stand for “McDonalds” when the Chameleon Queen carries it.

It can stand for money, madame, magnificent or maybe even Moschino.

Calvin Klein

There’s not much to say about the Fall 2014 Clavin Klein ad campaign promotion the hashtag #mycalvins. There’s little to say but lots to feel. Little words, lots of lust. Little speaking, lots of moans. hbz-best-ads-ck-01-lg

Photographer Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott reminds us why we pinned photos like these on out bedroom walls in the 90’s. (Kate Moss and Marky Mark, anyone?). Model Lara Stone is modernized in this ad mostly by the (strategically placed) hashtag.

hbz-best-ads-ck-03-lgLara is joined by Anerican model Matt Terry.

Of course the Calvin Klein girl has a boyfriend. Or maybe they’re just friends. With lots of benefits we all wanna partake in.

Party supergirl Cara Delevigne, turns her head away from the London party scene for just a little to enjoy all that the beautiful English countryside has to offer.

article-2676382-1F4CA37700000578-508_640x784Cara sports traditional English designs like plaid and argyle– all in the details.
hbz-best-ads-MLBRY_AW14_CARA_KHAKI_DPS_300dpi-lgPhotographer Tim Walker captures Cara in traditional English staples like rainboots and plaid, all with the London cool nobody can take away from Cara.

It’s A Mad, Mod World

via accessoriesmagazine.com

Short cuts and retro rock are making a comeback in 2014.

Designers paired micro-minis with low-heeled boots for a feminine yet seriously sophisticated set of ensembles that flatter a myriad of body types. Runway references to the days of Beatlemania and Twiggy triumph included the rock n’ roll silhouettes at St. Laurent, embroidered bibs of Gucci, and ultra low waistlines at D-Squared.

Italian Mod: Gucci Fall 2014

Let’s be honest: no decade comes back into vogue as frequently or with such enthusiasm as the swinging 60’s. We can’t quite quit those wild days of innovation in fashion, music, and culture. And why should we? It’s just too good to abandon for more than a couple Seasons.

An A-line or super square cut is vital the modern mod mini: loose enough to leave some room for imagination, structured enough to be daytime appropriate, and short enough to show off those long, tan Cali girl stems.

These celebrities showed that they know how to work it on the red carpet at New York’s Tribeca Film Festival! Model Crystal Renn was one of our favorites in this mustard draped gown by Zac Posen (with popsicle to match), and we love her red statement necklace! Emma Roberts looked all grown up in her cobalt blue dress by Cushnie et Ochs, complete with the designer’s signature bold neckline. Pregnant Evan Rachel Wood went with a sweet floral gown by Dolce & Gabbana that was the perfect springtime maternity look, and Karolina Kurkova stunned in a super-short bejeweled mini-dress by Bluemarine. Naomi Watts stood out in her plunging printed dress by Alexander McQueen, and we love how she paired it with a red clutch! Olivia Wilde wore a short A.L.C. black frock with sheer paneling and cutouts and added sparkling silver heels. Finally, Sasha Pieterse nails it in two of our favorite spring trends: emerald green and lace!

Fit for a Queen at Alexander McQueen PFW F/W’13

Sarah Burton delivered a breathtaking, pearl-encrusted Alexander McQueen show that made us think of an incredibly stylish Elizabethan tale. With floor length gowns, gold embellishments, headpieces, feathers, and puffed sleeves, these looks truly resemble something out of a couture fairy tale and they took our breath away. The pearl embellished details from head-to-toe (including tights and boots) were absolutely stunning and feminine, and the feathered sandals were a fun and chic finish for the looks. With chunky silver belts and intricate details, this show was truly a stunning work of art.

Must-Have Monday

The look: Alexander McQueen Top, Fausto Puglisi Skirt, and Giuseppe Zanotti Wedges

This outfit is just too incredible to not share on this must-have Monday! While we’ve always been a fan of the high-low skirts, this one truly takes the cake! Funky patterns, pleats, and a glamorous long train in back, this skirt and top make for a fabulous alternative to wear at a sophisticated yet trendy event— not to mention the shoes are simply fabulous! These gold and black wedges are truly innovative works of art by Giuseppe Zanotti and look incredible paired with this ensemble. We love black, white, and gold color combinations and these colors work for every season!
