Cannes Street Style

hbz-street-style-2013-Cannes-day1-05-lgn

We all know the streets of France are filled with stylish streetwalkers all year ’round, but when the Cannes Film Festival annually comes to town in Cannes, France, we get to see the chicest of the chic strutting their stuff! With Hollywood A-listers, bloggers, producers, and “It” style mavens flocking about this seaside town, we are loving the glimpse into the daily fashions of these trendy townies.

We spotted bold hues and plenty of Chanel bags and accessories, and are loving the variety of blues being represented for a town by the sea. While these looks are less dramatic then those spotted during fashion week, we love the trendy simplicity and edge that each outfit has, and can see ourselves rocking any of these looks. Which street style is your favorite?

Pink is undoubtedly one of the most flirty and feminine colors and is always a must for spring, and we are obsessed with Marina Monroe and Olga Valentina’s “Pretty in Pink” photoshoot in Venice. Here’s a sneak peak inside their looks, filled with Christian Louboutin, Jimmy Choo, Camilla and Marc, and of course —  vintage jewelry!

Stefan Richter, a finalist on season 5 of Top Chef, has turned an old office courtyard in Santa Monica into a restaurant where the decor reflects the food exactly: comfortable and classic but with a creative and delightful twist. With an enclosed patio space, modern sleek fire pits around leather booths, vines covering the walls, and a blend of classic tunes from the 70’s, 80’s, and present, the atmosphere is welcoming with just the right amount of a modern touch. Being a finalist on Top Chef, everything on the menu is innovative, delicious, and definitely worth trying, which is why we’re sure to be frequent visitors.

While everything looks amazing, we love the spicy tuna tartare with the spicy thai dressing (it’s less spicy than it sounds,) and the crispy scallops in pumpkin seed oil with a sweet corn puree is simply mouthwatering. If you’re not a seafood lover, don’t worry: there are all sorts of American classics, including mini corndogs, turkey burgers, acorn squash ravioli, and sausage risotto. The open fire pits are perfect for lounging, enjoying a cocktail, and most importantly— getting your s’more on! How rustic chic is that?!

For an intimate yet upbeat setting, we paired this neon green leather top with bright orange skinny jeans and crystal sandals to compliment. Since the vibe is laid back but still trendy, we love that this outfit encompasses all of those elements, and the crystal and coral earrings add the perfect amount of glam to the look!

The Cobra Society has been all over the celebrity circuit; modeled by Beyonce, Jennifer Lawrence, and Jessica Chastain to name a few, these beautiful and unique hand-stitched shoes and purses are hot for spring and fall! stylehaüs will be hosting the Minneapolis-based designer Alex Davis to come meet some of our clients and frequent shoppers on Saturday, May 18th from 12-5 pm, and we will be carrying the shoes through the weekend; these boots, flats, and espadrilles are definitely a must-have for all year round!

While the brand’s bohemian, leather signature shoes are still prominent for the fall collection, Davis emphasizes a more pared-down and refined look for everyday wear, and has added amazing leather and stitched totes to the collection! “The images are representative of a new direction for us,” said the label’s creative director and founder Alex Davis. “People don’t buy our boots often because they’re afraid – they’re quite bold. So what we wanted to do was show the public how to wear them. In previous lookbooks, we’ve had models wearing the boots in rural settings, while rolling around with a snake. These images were shot in a city and they leave less to the imagination. I want people to be able to visualize how to wear them.”

The latest collection features boots covered in Moroccan embroidery and others embellished with bronze gun bullets, in addition to an expanded line of bags and we could not be more excited! These chic boots and flats are sure to set your shoe game apart from the rest, so come shop for them at stylehaüs at The Grove this weekend!

Get Worldly Chic this Summer!

Etro SS 2013

Etro SS 2013

Put some ethnic, worldly pizzazz in your look! All this hot summer breeze has been enough to get us thinking ahead of ourselves too, plotting that jet-set-escape from the norm and into worlds unknown! But no matter how bad you’re urging to cab it to the airport and buy a one-way ticket to anywhere, you can certainly get a little worldly ‘in your own backyard’ and still stick around to show up for work on Monday morning.

On the spring and summer runways, designers like Etro, Missoni, and Kenzo displayed inspiration from some of the most cultured nooks of the world. Their play on colors, prints, style, and outfit construction awoke our fashion palates with foreign spice and unfamiliar (yet inviting) style inspiration. If you feel like Aztec prints are a bit too reminiscent of the 90’s, try another corner of the world, like a busy paisley print inspired by India’s traditional fabric designs, or something more colorful and abstract from Africa’s roots.

This dash of international flair is definitely sexy and chic for these hot summer months ahead, and since we encourage sporadic globe trotting over actually sticking around for Mondays rush hour traffic, we’re happy to take the call of  blame for your absence all in the name of fashion, style, and world travel!

Beauty Tip of the Day: There’s WHAT in My Lipstick?!

Guest writer and dermatologist, Nancy Samolitis, will be giving us her top beauty advice each week; don’t forget to check out Nancy’s websites and follow her on Twitter @Dermdoc_Sam

Ladies, listen up before you pucker up

Anyone who wears lip products understands that the product doesn’t just wear off, you are licking it off. In fact, a recent study shows that average lipstick users apply products between 2-14 times a day and may be ingesting up to 83mg a day. So, what exactly are we eating?
  •   Lead and other trace metals such as aluminum, cadmium, and chromium.  The FDA has no regulations regarding metal content in cosmetics. It is unclear whether the amounts of metals found in lipsticks are in fact toxic, but it is concerning since they are ingested so frequently. Overexposure to these metals can cause neurologic problems and increased cancer risk.
  •   Parabens are preservatives used in many products to prevent overgrowth of bacteria.  There is evidence that parabens have estrogen-like activity and may contribute to alterations in normal hormone function and possibly even breast cancer.  Parabens can also cause allergic reactions especially in those who have eczema or sensitive skin.

Although the true toxicity of lip products is not known, I recommend using lip products that contain natural, organic ingredients and are known to be lead-free. Luckily, more products are trending in this direction:

1.  Bite Beauty – Available at Sephora “Lip products that are healthy enough to eat”.

2.  Ilia – Iliabeauty.com

3.  Vapour Organic Beauty – Vapourbeauty.com

We know lipstick is one of the best ways to up your glamour game, but there’s no need not to be conscious about what we’re buying (and eating!) Beauty should never be unhealthy, so shop for that perfect pout with organic lip products and pucker up!
