BEST

1. Emma Stone

Prediction based on this ensemble: Emma Stone will be THE Manic Pixie Dream Girl of 2015.

2.. Kate Hudson

Stomach slits and a plunging neckline rarely amount to good taste, but Kate Hudson and the seasoned pros at Atelier Versace make it more than work in this sleek white gown.

3. Sienna Miller

Embellishment inspired by magical fairy wonderlands done right. Sienna Miller would be a magnificent wood nymph.

4. Julianne Moore

Although accepting an award on Alzheimers, Julianne Moore did not forget how to dress. I wish I could say the same for the rest of Hollywood.

5. Chrissy Teigen

If you look up “jaw droppingly gorgeous”, a picture of Chrissy Teigan’s 2015 Emmy dress should appear. Simultaneously sophisticated and sexy, this sheer floor length stunner is sensuality embodied.

6. Lupita Nyong’o

Showing off her toned shoulders with a strapless neckline, Lupita looks gorgeous in royal purple yet again. I love the lush layers of fabric and color blending.

7. Felicity Jones

The new old look: a classic Dior silhouette is modernized with a deep emerald wash.

Worst

1. Claire Danes

Claire Dane’s odious Golden Globes outfit is the unwanted offspring of a tacky scarf and frumpy dress.

2. Keira Knightley

In a recent interview, Keira Knighley said it took 30 people to create this Chanel monstrosity. 30 people should be fired losing their jobs right about now. Also, who thought “there aren’t enough butterflies already in this look, let’s add a butterfly clutch”? Because that person should look into another field. Maybe one in an actual field.

3. Maggie Gyllenhal

Could Maggie Gyllenhall not find anyone to lend her jewelry? Like you didn’t want to slap anything, anything at all for a major televised awards show?

4. Melissa McCartney

Melissa McCarthy in a black and white dress with a Carla Amorim ring and Doves by Doron Paloma earrings.

Who is the genius that put Melissa McCarthy in ruffles and a massive freaking bow? She’s a full figured woman, not a toddler.

5. Robin Wright

Is Robin Wright depressed? Is Ralph Lauren depressed? I’m genuinely concerned. This is concerning.

6. Jemima Kirk

Julianna whipped this look up from some old curtains in her spare time because she’s really into DIY right now.

Kerry Washington

Kerry Washington looks like an actual angel, which makes whoever put her in this tea length color blocked eyesore at minimum a lesser demon.

You don’t do ankle length with petite women and this is why: it cuts them off. Down with dressing adult women like American Dolls.

Throwback Thursday: Angela Chase

The name Angela Chase may or may not ring a bell to you- probably because she’s a fictional character.  Angela Chase, as played by Claire Danes on My So-Called Life, was the It Girl of the 90s.  The lead character of the cancelled-too-soon TV series has become the martyred saint of 90s grunge fashion: she wore plaid, Laura Ashley florals, weird layering, and lots of tights and boots like no other.  We’ve turned to watching MSCL reruns on Hulu lately and find ourselves still coveting her fictional wardrobe 20 years later.

Pre-makeover Angela and Rayanne

At the start of the series, Angela is all pastels and crochet vests and sweet florals.  Then along comes a new BFF, bad girl Rayanne, who deems Angela makeover-worthy.  Episode 1 sees Angela go from unassuming blond to rebellious red head, and that’s just the start of her style transformation.

If Angela’s style was a little bit prairie-girl pre makeover, it’s definitely prairie-girl-gone-bad after.  She gives her usual florals a grungey makeover with an ever-present flannel shirt and throws things together with a devil-may-care attitude (or at least she makes it looks that way).

Flannel over overalls?  Hard to believe this is 20 years ago.  We see this look on street style blogs daily nowadays!

Layering 101: Make your summer floral dress appropriate for colder weather by wearing it over a long-sleeved tee in a dark neutral color.  Duh.

MY SO CALLED LIFE

More florals and plaids.  Loving Wilson’s denim-on-floral-on-bolo-tie look too!

Who says plaid is just for shirts?  Grab a plaid skirt instead and layer away!  We’re kind of obsessed with Angela’s mixed-media sweatshirt right here and want to hunt down a modern-day version for ourselves.    This is also probably the last and only time Jared Leto wore pants that loose.  Oh, Jordan Catalano and his choker necklaces.  Mmmm.

Pretty much all of Angela’s outfits would be appropriate for modern-day wear!  Get the look by layering a plaid or flannel shirt over EVERYTHING.   For inspiration, re-watch the entire series here.

Golden Globes Predictions for 2013

The Golden Globes are right around the corner, (January, 13th to be exact!) We are truly looking forward to seeing those glamorous gowns and dazzling dresses on the red carpet! There are many amazing actresses nominated for their phenomenal performances on televisions latest hit shows and mini-series! Here are our Golden Globes predictions for 2013!

WHO: Hayden Panettiere
DRESS PREDICTION: Elie Saab Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2013 Collection
SHOW SHE IS NOMINATED FOR: “Nashville”
WHY WE CHOSE THIS DRESS: This peachy pink is ideal for a young actress! The soft pastel is so youthful and fresh, an ideal shade for any red carpet event! Hayden has never been a girl that was afraid of color, so this dress combined with the slight-country edge would be the perfect match for her!

WHO: Sofia Vergara
DRESS PREDICTION: Tony Ward Haute Couture 2013 Collection
SHOW SHE IS NOMINATED FOR: “Modern Family”
WHY WE CHOSE THIS DRESS: Sofia always wears Vera Wang for her big red carpet events. However, we are predicting that this year she will break out of her comfort zone and try a new designer. This Tony Ward gown is still in the mermaid style, which Sofia is known to love and that we have come to expect her to wear! The sheer black embellishments combined with this body-hugging silhouette is an ideal look to show off her amazing curves!

WHO: Zooey Deschanel
DRESS PREDICTION: Marchesa Spring/Summer 2013 Collection
SHOW SHE IS NOMINATED FOR: “New Girl”
WHY WE CHOSE THIS DRESS: Her quirky, fun and free-spirited personality has always made her stand out from the red carpet crowd. We think this playful fringed number by Marchesa fits Zooey’s unique style to perfection!

WHO: Claire Danes
DRESS PREDICTION: Elie Saab Spring/Summer 2013 Collection
SHOW SHE IS NOMINATED FOR: “Homeland”
WHY WE CHOSE THIS DRESS: Claire Danes is now a new mom, and with that comes new challenges when dressing for special events. However, you can’t go wrong in a wrap gown, especially if it’s one created by Elie Saab. This emerald green gown shows just enough skin while still being, “mom-appropriate.”
