Boss Bomber Jackets

Be gone basic bomber!

1970’s boho may be storming the runways, but one key piece for Fall 2014 comes straight out of the 80’s. I chose to write about bomber jackets this week for three reasons.

3 Reasons To Wear A Bomber Jacket In Fall 2014

1. Bomber jackets are ridiculously comfortable.

Now that Summer is finished, we can finally put away our exposed midriff and devote ourselves to pre-Thanksgiving stomach stretches. During Spring/Summer, I stretch my stomach inwards. But during Fall/Winter, sweet forgiving Fall/Winter, I vigorously challenge my stomach outwards and onwards, working through Eater’s Restaurant Lists with rabid enthusiasm. Bomber jackets are fabulous for disguising a post-eating frenzy bulge.

 2. Bomber jackets look cool in a super chill, I woke up like this way.

Effortless style is the epitome of chic. I never want anyone to look at me and think “she’s trying really hard,” even when “trying hard” is an understatement. Bomber jackets make me feel like an off duty model during New York Fashion Week, who are incidentally the biggest fans of bomber jackets. Models know what’s up with the bomber.

3. Bomber jackets are a fabulous foil for transitional weather.

What is transitional weather? The weather you are currently residing in, no matter your longitude and latitude. Light laying is key at this time, and the bombers of 2014 are light enough to layer and roomy enough to accommodate more layers.

The Breakfast Club may have bonded over youthful disillusionment, but they just as easily could have found common ground in the casual yet versatile bomber jacket, which was worn by virtually every mover and shaker to grace the neon screen between 1981-1989.

Bomber jackets are enjoying a rad renaissance thanks to the plethora of textures, patterns, shapes, and textures being used by designers high and low alike. One near-universal trait of Fall 2014’s bomber is light luxury. These jackets exude easy athleticism, and wear far less heavily than their Pretty In Pink era ancestors.

Topshop, Monki, & Sandro

Bomber jackets appeared everywhere during Spring/Summer 2015 Fashion week, on runways as different as Dior and Public School. Raf Simons’ cheekily blended retro-redux and dashes of norm-core with delightful curvilinear bomber-jackets in petite jacquard floral, emphasizing that bright bombers suit both men and women.

At Recent CDFA winner/hipster darling label Public School’s Spring/Summer 2015 Show, printed bomber jackets practically strolled off the runway and into fashionista arms. Not bad for Public School’d very first Women’s Collection. Alexander Wang paired bright, sporty bomber jackets with dress pants in a masterful stroke of mix and match.

Retail analytics company EDITD, which analyzes the biggest Fashion Week Trends based on mentions, dubbed bomber jackets the third biggest trend of Spring/Summer 2015 Fashion week, with 404 mentions.

Bomber jackets might have an even bigger celebrity following than yoga. Fans include Rita Ora, Cara Delevingne, Georgia May Jagger, Rihanna, Chloe Grace Moretz, Ciara, Emma Watson, Emma Roberts, Lena Dunham, Fearne Cotton, and Kristen Stewart.

Bombs awayyyy.

The 10 Coolest Quotes Of Christian Dior

Christian-Dior-2

J’adore Dior!

And you will two after reading these fabulous insights from the big bad Grandfather of bold & ultra feminine silhouettes. Dior’s first Collection, Correlle, translates into “Circle of Flower Petals”; which is exactly what Dior’s delicious gowns resembled. Ladies went wild for Dior’s stunning designs, which made the wearer resemble a breathing bloom and went down in history as the ‘New Look’.

Hilariously, the notoriously understated Coco Chanel was so horrified by Dior’s elaborate and admittedly constraining creations that she came out of retirement just to him down. A dreamy and delightful man who died young, and quite suddenly, Christian Dior often waxed poetic about life’s little pleasures, joy, and beauty.

Here are Christian Dior’s 10 best quotes.

GET THE LOOK: THE 3 BEST LOOKS OF PARIS FASHION WEEK

Paris Fashion Week is well underway, and we’re excited about the collections we’ve seen so far.  Most runway shows have nailed that effortlessly sexy vibe that the French are known for, whether it’s through tailored separates, oversized knits, or skin-tight leather.  Some of our favorite looks have more to do with proportions than pieces, which actually makes them super-easy to recreate right now!  Here are our top 3 looks from Paris Fashion Week and how to get them RIGHT NOW:

1.  Dior

paris-fashion-week-fall-2014

Dior’s show, which felt more Spring than Fall, was full of gorgeous colors, layered outerwear, and new proportions.  Our favorite look consisted of a long yellow vest worn over a plain white dress- so easy, yet totally fresh & exciting.  To get the look now, we’d wear this long white vest from Haute Hippie with a plain yellow tank dress from American Apparel.  Throw on some ankle-strap heels, like these from Forever 21, and you’re done!  Tres Dior.

2.  Jay Ahr

paris-fashion-week-fall-2014

This was the first time we’ve paid attention to designer Jay Ahr, and we’ve got to say that we loved his show!  The look that really struck us was this black and white number- the striped skirt, white fur jacket, and chic little booties are such a fierce combo.  Luckily, we were able to find some amazing pieces to recreate this vibe.  A Rachel Zoe striped skirt pairs perfectly with an affordable faux-fur jacket, and any black ankle booties will do.  See?  Easy!

3.  Isabel Marant

paris-fashion-week-fall-2014

Isabel Marant has made her name synonymous with “quintessential French style”, and her latest collection stayed true to that maxim.  The designer pairs overtly-sexy pieces with covered-up classics for a mix that’s understated and badass, and this look from Fall 2014 is our favorite.  Zara’s asymmetrically cut black leather skirt will help you nail the Paris vibe, and their oversized black sweater is a no-brainer.  We loved Isabel’s mesh “scarf” necklace, but this Allen Schwartz necklace is almost as cool.  Add some studded Steve Madden boots, and you’ve got a mix like Marant!

Paris Fashion Week always brings forth beautiful, couture designs from some of the world’s most classic and renown designers, and  the Fall/Winter 2013 Christian Dior show was no exception as Raf Simons delivered his successful second ready-to-wear collection. Simons created a runway set inspired by pop art as well as surrealism, even featuring a collaboration with the Andy Warhol Foundation to incorporate the Pop artist’s drawings of shoes, butterflies, and images of women embroidered onto handbags and dresses. The looks were intended to be modern enough to wear for every day, but also special and unique pieces of wearable art for special events. Simons played with patterns such as houndstooth in many of his looks, and incorporated a pop-art inspired floral pattern that is sure to be a notable trend in the upcoming months. In particular, the F/W 2013 Dior collection featured beautiful feminine dresses, ruffles, and even a leather dress that caught our eye! As Dior was the go-to for the best-dressed celebrities in Hollywood this awards season, this collection will be the go-to for the best dressed women around the world come fall!

French-born designer Christian Dior is regarded as one of the most influential names in fashion and the impression he created in the fashion world in the 1950s has allowed Dior to remain one of the most prominent brands in luxury fashion and Haute Couture today. For Throwback Thursday, we decided to dig through some archives of one of our favorite designers and these vintage advertisements remind us how truly classic and elegant Christian Dior’s style is. To this day, Dior has remained true to its origins, and consistently produces timeless pieces full of character, style, and charisma. In particular, Christian Dior is regarded as being the innovator behind the, “A-Line” skirt trend, a style that has continued to evolve and fill modern-day runways and street style looks. A term first used by Dior as the label for his collection in the spring of 1955, the A-Line skirt is fitted at the hips and gradually widens towards the hem, giving the impression in the shape of a capital letter “A”. Dior’s A-Line collection became “the most wanted silhouette in Paris”, and a fingertip-length flared jacket worn over a dress with a very full, pleated skirt became Dior’s signature look at the time. A-Line skirts continue to be a popular style today, whether for the office or a more formal night out, they are a classic, feminine, go-to piece when looking for a traditional-yet-stylish pairing to complement a blouse. From vintage 1950s ads to the 2013 runways, Christian Dior reminds us that iconic designs are timeless, and true fashion never goes out of style.
