1. Emma Stone

Prediction based on this ensemble: Emma Stone will be THE Manic Pixie Dream Girl of 2015.

2.. Kate Hudson

Stomach slits and a plunging neckline rarely amount to good taste, but Kate Hudson and the seasoned pros at Atelier Versace make it more than work in this sleek white gown.

3. Sienna Miller

Embellishment inspired by magical fairy wonderlands done right. Sienna Miller would be a magnificent wood nymph.

4. Julianne Moore

Although accepting an award on Alzheimers, Julianne Moore did not forget how to dress. I wish I could say the same for the rest of Hollywood.

5. Chrissy Teigen

If you look up “jaw droppingly gorgeous”, a picture of Chrissy Teigan’s 2015 Emmy dress should appear. Simultaneously sophisticated and sexy, this sheer floor length stunner is sensuality embodied.

6. Lupita Nyong’o

Showing off her toned shoulders with a strapless neckline, Lupita looks gorgeous in royal purple yet again. I love the lush layers of fabric and color blending.

7. Felicity Jones

The new old look: a classic Dior silhouette is modernized with a deep emerald wash.

1. Claire Danes

Claire Dane’s odious Golden Globes outfit is the unwanted offspring of a tacky scarf and frumpy dress.

2. Keira Knightley

In a recent interview, Keira Knighley said it took 30 people to create this Chanel monstrosity. 30 people should be fired losing their jobs right about now. Also, who thought “there aren’t enough butterflies already in this look, let’s add a butterfly clutch”? Because that person should look into another field. Maybe one in an actual field.

3. Maggie Gyllenhal

Could Maggie Gyllenhall not find anyone to lend her jewelry? Like you didn’t want to slap anything, anything at all for a major televised awards show?

4. Melissa McCartney

Who is the genius that put Melissa McCarthy in ruffles and a massive freaking bow? She’s a full figured woman, not a toddler.

5. Robin Wright

Is Robin Wright depressed? Is Ralph Lauren depressed? I’m genuinely concerned. This is concerning.

Kerry Washington looks like an actual angel, which makes whoever put her in this tea length color blocked eyesore at minimum a lesser demon.

You don’t do ankle length with petite women and this is why: it cuts them off. Down with dressing adult women like American Dolls.

Black & White: The Trend That Never Dies

It’s no secret that black & white will always be a forever trend. Neutrals are easy go-to colors that keep us on our toes when last-minute changes are necessary. Whether your style is runway chic, hipster, preppy or grunge, we all have a B&W look that we love and can count on. Two colors, such as these, not only look great when colorblocked but have the ability to create an unlimited amount of opportunity when it comes to mixing prints.

Trend Report: Red Carpet 2014

The Golden Globes ushered in a new era in Red Carpet dressing.  Gone were overly revealing, overly poufy gowns of 2013 and instead we saw classic, edgy, and covered-up red carpet fashions.  Classic colors- black, white, and red- made up the bulk of the ladies’ gowns, and Old Hollywood-esque cuts were the most popular, on the likes of Lena Dunham and Sofia Vergara.  The Critic’s Choice Awards and last night’s SAG Awards echoed much of the same:  starlets are leaning toward sophisticated silhouettes that are balanced and feminine- but they aren’t afraid to play around a little bit, either.  Here are some of 2014’s top red carpet trends so far:

Bright Red:

Amy Adams, Emma Watson, Lupita Nyong’o, Elisabeth Moss

Amy Adams, Emma Watson, newcomer Lupita Nyong’o, and Taylor Swift (among others) all chose to wear a bold shade of red at the Globes.  Elisabeth Moss stole the SAG Awards red carpet in her perfectly classic red gown! The color of the year has  orange undertones, coming off brighter and fresher than vampy red and burgundy gowns that were popular for last awards season.

Classic Black:

Cate Blanchett, Amy Poehler, Emma Roberts

The past few seasons have been very experimental, with prints and crazy cutouts making headlines- but stars are going back to basics this year.  Black was an overwhelmingly popular color choice for the Globes-  Cate Blanchett, a constant Best Dressed frontrunner, wore a black Armani gown, host Amy Poehler wore a black Stella McCartney sheath, and Emma Roberts, Hayden Panettiere, and Sofia Vegara all went for basic black as well.

Lupita Nyong’o, Margot Robbie, Kerry Washington, Gretchen Mohl

Less dramatic but more eye-catching, white was a popular dress color at the Golden Globes too.  Hollywood’s favorite red carpet girl Jennifer Lawrence wore a strapless white Dior gown, new girl Margot Robbie wore white Gucci with a plunging neckline, and Kerry Washington clothed her baby bump in custom white Balenciaga.  At the Critic’s Choice Awards, Lupita Nyong’o wore a stunning white column dress with cutouts.  Gretchen Mohl was our favorite white dress of the season, though- she wore a fishnetted J.Mendel number to the SAG Awards last night!

Conservative cuts:

Uma Thurman, Olivia Wilde, Elisabeth Moss

Princess gowns made a few appearances on the carpet, but the most popular silhouette was body-conscious and covered-up.    Emma Thompson, Uma Thurman, Oliva Wilde, Elisabeth Moss, and Kristin Chenowith all went with gowns that feature a high neckline, floor-grazing skirt, and tight fit.  Fuss-free and modern!

Deep Vs:

Kate Mara, Michelle Dockery

Plunging necklines will always have a place on the red carpet, though, and many actresses went for gowns in that classic shape.  Amy Adams’ Valentino gown and Kate Mara’s J. Mendel dress at the Globes both featured necklines that plunged all the way down to the rib cage!  Michelle Dockery wore her version of a plunging neckline at the SAG Awards.  The women balanced out the revealing nature of their top half with flowing, drapey skirts.

Julie Deply, Amber Heard, Kristen Bell

A new type of neckline emerged too: the asymmetrical neckline.  Many dresses featured an edgy one-shoulder fit and asymmetrically cut necklines at the Globes.  Julie Deply, Ariel Winter, Amber Heard, and Amy Poehler all chose dresses with this unique look, and Kristin Bell gave the trend a shot at the Critic’s Choice Awards too.

Playing with classics:

Emma Watson, Julia Roberts, Margot Robbie, Jennifer Lawrence

It also seems that stars and their stylists are letting themselves be more experimental with their red carpet choices.  Emma Watson wore a stunning backless Dior dress featuring a high slit that showed off a slim pair of pants underneath!  Lupita Nyong’o’s Globes dress was a hybrid dress/cape, and Julia Roberts layered her strapless black gown over a crisp white button down.  At the Critic’s Choice Awards, Margot Robbie even pushed the boundaries with a lacy black jumpsuit!  Jennifer Lawrence updated her classicly-fit column gown (Dior, of course) at the SAG Awards with holographic sparkles- one of the biggest runway trends for Spring.  Clearly, the rules are being thrown out the window.

Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, Jennifer Garner, Amy Adams

The Critic’s Choice Awards are decidedly more casual, and a big trend to emerge from the night was belted dresses.   Sandra Bullock added a metal belt to her ruffled column gown, Cate Blanchett cinched her waist with a wide black belt over her simple navy dress, and Oprah Winfrey streamlined her shape with a sweet bow-shaped belt. Jennifer Garner threw a simple patent belt over her classic black strapless gown at the SAG Awards, and Amy Adams livened up her blue SAG dress with a sparkly waist-cincher, too!

Drew Barrymore, Lupita Nyong’o

Floral appliqués made a few appearances at the awards shows, most notably on Drew Barrymore’s Globes dress (Monique Lhuillier) and Lupita Nyong’o’s custom Gucci gown at the SAG Awards.  This is such a fun look, but it DEFINITELY is not for everyone.

Crop Tops:

Kerry Washington, Zooey Deschanel

Kerry Washington’s crop top/wide skirt outfit at last night’s SAG Awards polarized fashionistas- some hated it, some loved it.  We loved it!  Kerry bravely showed off her baby bump, and we think she’ll look back on this outfit and be glad she flaunted her goods.  Zooey Deschanel’s Oscar de la Renta dress for the Globes had the same effect on people.  While she didn’t pull it off quite as well as Washington (honestly, only because she’s not preggers!) we like the look and hope crop tops become more of a red carpet thing.

We predict that the rest of this awards season will see more of the same: a return to classics, dresses that are subtley sexy, edgier choices that push the boundaries, and bold colors.

Celebrity Style: Miranda Kerr

It seems as if one of our favorite supermodels, Miranda Kerr, can truly do no wrong when it comes to fashion. From street style to the red carpet, this Australian-born beauty continuously exerts a wow-factor wherever she goes, and each time she amazes us in an outfit, the next time she seems to trump it! From glamorous gold sequins to feminine lace, Miranda looked nothing short of perfection at the W Magazine’s Pre-Golden Globes celebration at Chateau Marmont. Donning a Dolce & Gabbana dress with gold panels that accentuated her slim frame, gold clutch and shoes from Roger Vivier, and Lorraine Schwartz rings to complete her look, she truly looked like Hollywood royalty. Miranda has been quoted saying, “I believe to be successful at anything you have to give it a 100% commitment and that’s what I still do to this day.” And that, she does! Whether hitting the beach, a gala, or the streets of L.A., this bombshell rocks everything she wears and so much more!
