Rave On For Spring 2015

We knew something was up with major blogger Bryan Boy attended Alexander Wang’s ultra hyped Spring 2015 show in EDM inspired attire: a neon-printed tee, stacked kandi bracelets, and a teddy bear pacifier.

But that was just the start of this rollicking rave party! Cool kid label MBMJ sent out a collection inspired by ‘80’s ravers, with models strutting to flashing club lights and classic house tracks.

Jeremy Scott teamed up with Miley Cyrus to create an over-the top spectacle, replete with mixed media decor and artwork made up of what might be found on the floor of any Skrillex show.

The Cyrus-designed accessories that Jeremy Scott’s models walked in were strikingly similar to ‘Kandi’, the colorful beaded bracelets that ravers trade with each other at shows as a gesture of friendship.

So leave your minimalism in Summer and go forth, go neon, and go hard!

Some buy Vogue for the pretty pictures: Our Favorite Campaigns of Fall 2014

A great edition of Time has to have minimal advertising– I mean who wants to have to flip through endless advertisements for Activia? On the contrary, a  great edition of Vogue (or Elle or Harper’s or whatever) contains the best, most ravishing advertisements one can find- the season’s latest fashion campaigns. These campaigns can be so chic, so sexy, so sophisticated that sometimes, we can’t help but skip through the articles and “only look at the pretty pictures.” Middle school style.

Here are our favorite campaigns (reading distractions) of the season.

Moschino

Jeremy Scott takes aver Moschino with a bang– or more appropriately, a burp. The young designer debuts as the new Moschino Creative Director with a McDonald’s inspired collection. The runway collection has been described by some critics as “trashy” and “over the top.” Other critics, on the other hand, enjoyed the playful collection by the young designer and described the collection as “delicious.”

Because of how the collection was shown on the runway and the critics’ sometimes harsh reviews, we expected Moschino to put out an ad campaign just as “over the top” and “delicious” but instead, what we got was an elegant ad campaign with some of New York’s most sophisticated.

Celebrated photographer Steven Meisel captured models Karen Elson, Raquel Zimmerman, Saskia De Brauw and Caroline Murphy in what seems to be a formal, high brow get together. But if you look closely, you can see the cheese  on Saskia’s dress and the other playful, clever details inspired by the world’s most well-known fast food chain.

And what’s more Elegant than Queen Linda? The “M” on the quilted shoulder bag does not stand for “McDonalds” when the Chameleon Queen carries it.

It can stand for money, madame, magnificent or maybe even Moschino.

Calvin Klein

There’s not much to say about the Fall 2014 Clavin Klein ad campaign promotion the hashtag #mycalvins. There’s little to say but lots to feel. Little words, lots of lust. Little speaking, lots of moans. hbz-best-ads-ck-01-lg

Photographer Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott reminds us why we pinned photos like these on out bedroom walls in the 90’s. (Kate Moss and Marky Mark, anyone?). Model Lara Stone is modernized in this ad mostly by the (strategically placed) hashtag.

hbz-best-ads-ck-03-lgLara is joined by Anerican model Matt Terry.

Of course the Calvin Klein girl has a boyfriend. Or maybe they’re just friends. With lots of benefits we all wanna partake in.

Mulberry

Party supergirl Cara Delevigne, turns her head away from the London party scene for just a little to enjoy all that the beautiful English countryside has to offer.

It’s A Mad, Mod World

Short cuts and retro rock are making a comeback in 2014.

Designers paired micro-minis with low-heeled boots for a feminine yet seriously sophisticated set of ensembles that flatter a myriad of body types. Runway references to the days of Beatlemania and Twiggy triumph included the rock n’ roll silhouettes at St. Laurent, embroidered bibs of Gucci, and ultra low waistlines at D-Squared.

Italian Mod: Gucci Fall 2014

Let’s be honest: no decade comes back into vogue as frequently or with such enthusiasm as the swinging 60’s. We can’t quite quit those wild days of innovation in fashion, music, and culture. And why should we? It’s just too good to abandon for more than a couple Seasons.

An A-line or super square cut is vital the modern mod mini: loose enough to leave some room for imagination, structured enough to be daytime appropriate, and short enough to show off those long, tan Cali girl stems.

Trend Report: Beanies hit the streets of NYC, London, Milan & Paris

From New York, to London, Milan, and now Paris, fashionistas across the globe are uniting on one trend that is sure to make a statement this fall: beanies. We’ve been seeing them on the runways and editorials, and they’ve officially hit the streets of Fashion Week! We’re personally an advocate of this playful look; with different colors, styles, and even fun ears (like the hat Marina Monroe wore to Jeremy Scott for NYFW), beanies make a youthful, yet fashionable statement and add more than just warmth to your outfit. And better yet, these hats are perfect for a bad hair day! They are great to throw on with just about anything in your wardrobe! The streets of Paris were filled with hats paired with couture jackets, heels, and purses, but are also great to compliment jeans and a sweater for a spring or fall day.

The Jeremy Scott NYFW 2013 show was quite an experience to say the least! The show featured a bold and punk-inspired Fall/Winter 2013 collection featuring graphic knitwear, psychedelic prints, anarchy symbols, eccentric looks, fur cropped tops, and much more. As these shows are as renowned for their spectacle as they are for their pop-culture-inspired clothes, the energy in the room was exhilarating and fun, and we had a great time! For Fall 2013, Scott was “just trying to make a teenage boy’s bedroom fantasy of monsters come true and having those kinds of posters come to life as some sort of fantasy woman,” he explained backstage after his show, and this was dream came to reality on stage as we experienced head-to-toe furry ensembles, monster-inspired sweaters, and plenty of skeleton prints. Olga and I got into the spirit of the show as we rocked our own graphic and edgy looks, and I am obsessed with my new mouse hat! You never know what you’re going to get at a Jeremy Scott show, but we know it’s going to be plenty of fun!
