All White Everything

white1It’s not what kind of white you wear that matters, it’s how you wear it.

That “no white after labor day” proverb has never been less relevant than it will be in Spring 2015, when all white ensembles will roam the street style catwalk like chic predators. I’ve heard various rules for wearing all white over the years, none of which are worth repeating.

The designers at Issey Miyake and Christian Dior certainly weren’t paying heed to proverbs when they send models out in all white ensembles that involved mixed textures, heavy layering, geometric cuts, and combining various shades of the seemingly stark hue for a staggering deep palate.

White is often thought of as a “light” shade, but Spring 2015 will bring all white outfits of super sturdy fabric and heavy construction.

Fellow fans of the all white trend include Phillip Lim, Thakoon, Derek Lam, Carolina Herrera, Ralph Rucci, Prabal Gurung, Victoria Beckham and BCBG Max Azria, who all showed head to toe white looks for the Spring/Summer 2015 Season in New York and Paris.

This Season’s Tea Length Skirt trend is the most interesting thing to happen to tea since our rowdy American forefathers incited a war by chucking it overboard.

The proper but never prissy cut lends sophistication to petite women and gamine charm to lengthy ladies while cleverly disguising anything remotely resembling cellulite. Luminaries such as Prabal Gurung, Christian Dior, and Tracy Reese debuted darling tea length ensembles during Spring/Summer 2014 Fashion week. Adapting a tea length skirt to your wardrobe is simple! During sweltering Summer months, pair with a crop top and sandals. When Autumn rolls through, just toss some tights and boots underneath the tea length skirt and you’re good to go.

Prabal Gurung for Target

Spring, summer, and fall have never looked better through the eyes of Prabal Gurung!

Designer Prabal Gurung has had quite the weekend; from showing off his sleek fall 2013 line at New York Fashion Week, to his launch with Target and its carnival-inspired party, we can’t get enough of his latest creations. His fall line was inspired by an article from 2012 about women’s apparel in the army, “It came back to this idea of empowerment,” said Gurung during a preview. “Traditionally, we tend to look at men’s uniforms and then redesign, but this was very much focused on women.” He incorporated classic army hues such as olive green and navy and feminized these traditional army tones by accentuating waistlines with belts and leather harnesses and adding white fur to tailored jackets. His chic runway shows put an innovative spin on the traditional army-inspired looks for women and his silk evening wear was truly beautiful as he played with patterns, cutouts, and leather details. Skirts were shown with thigh-high leather footwear, and the leather dresses were fabulous. Overall these runway looks were sleek, well-designed, and sexy, making them a must-have for fall!
